Sport Help! To Cut or to Bulk?

Sport Fitness
Hey, Im currently knew here and still reading up on the huge quantities of information here. Starting this year I'm hoping to get my body back into shape, which from reading seems to mean get your diet sorted!

Basically, I'm a bit confused as to whether I should be bulking or cutting. I've heard some people say that cutting (Lean Bulking?) is better, and others saying that bulking then cutting, and numerous other variations.

Im around 6ft4 and 19 years old. I weigh 11 stone and my BF is around 6-8%. I literally only carry any fat I have around the "Waist" that tyre like area of lower stomach, and waist/top ass (I think some people call it Puppy fat?) Apart from that their is nothing much on me at all.

I am looking to put on a lot of muscle mass and get bigger in general, however from what iv read putting on "Lean Muscle Mass" would be better? (Again abit confused on this)

Any information and feedback is appreciated! I can always stick some pictures up if you think that would help more!

Cheers!

EDIT: I forgot to put in some measurements, not sure if this helps or not!

Hips: 32cm
Waist: 72cm
Forearm: 27cm
Wrist: 18.7cm

Your weight is at the bottom of the "normal" range, which means to me that you are underweight. I would work on adding muscle first as I suspect you are quite weak, based on the measurements you provided.

Firstly, thanks for the quick response! So you would recommend on bulking up first then, rather than cutting? Its so I can tailor my diet towards one or the other, whilst training!

Thanks!

If you are truly 6-8% BF, which I highly doubt, you have nothing at all to 'cut'. Nothing. If you have a 'tire' around your belly you are more than likely at least 20% BF. At 6-8% you would be able to see every muscle in your body and would have crazy 6 or 8 pack abs.

I would say to increase your calories, especially your calories from Protein and start lifting heavy. Eat every 3 hours.

Agreed with the responses above. At the height and weight measurements you've given, you're definitely safe going for "bulking" rather than cutting. You should focus on eating a high protein diet with as much unprocessed whole foods as possible. Then get yourself started on a resistance training program that incorporates multi-joint lift movements such as deadlifts, barbell squats, lunges, military press, bench press, pullups, and dips in order to build core strength and add muscle mass.

*Disclaimer*
Please, PLEASE make sure you focus on proper form when doing your lifts, ESPECIALLY the multi-joint movements I mentioned above. Start with very low weights and get your form right before you start adding all sorts of weight to the equation. Poor form + lots of weight = injuries, pain, and sad face.

Good luck on reaching your goals!
Jeremy
