Weight-Loss

Hello I am Katie..fairly new to the site. I am struggling with my weight loss recently. I started off losing like 7 lbs the first week and now I go back and forth between having lost 5-7 lbs.

Im not a super picky eater but alot of foods I just do not like. Its hard for me to struggle to eat a big salad if I dont like whats in it..its easier for me to not even eat anything (not saying thats healthy in anyway!) its just that attempting to eat food I dont like instead of going hungry usually just makes me more hungry for the foods I know I should not be eating.

Im eating way healthier than I was before I starting my journey 2.5 weeks ago and I eat way less calories. I try to work out 1.5-2 hrs a day (lately its been a little less because its been 90+ degrees and my upstairs apt has no air conditioning...but I still try and do atleast 45 mins a day of intense cardio and or intense muscle strengthening.

When I went to the gym my first two years of college to work out and had to make healthier choices with dorm food I made so much more progress..but now that I have tons of work out equipment and can buy my own food I feel like Im making less progress.

please help.

Hi Katie.

You know there are literally thousands of healthy foods out there. If you don't like salad, then don't force yourself to eat it. Eat something you like instead. If you don't like a certain veggie raw, then try it cooked - or vice versa. If you don't like something baked, try it grilled or poached. Or the other way around.

And, also, a "salad" doesn't have to be lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and dressing (or whatever). What about a salad made of baby spinach with sliced mandarin oranges and almonds? Or a salad made of fruit with a yogurt dressing?

So many people get this one-track mindset about what something is. And there are so many different foods and so many ways to prepare and eat them that I just find it hard to believe that the choice for anyone is to eat food they don't like or go hungry.

I try to do that also. I know lettuce doesnt do much for your body so I have been going with a spinach and arugula salad instead and its not really that bad.

I also try and eat some fruits and stuff like that

all of that isnt THAT bad but theres times when it kinda makes me feel sick to eat that kinda food so i end up eating nothing

i dont know whats wrong with me

Well what kinds of foods DO you like? I guess I'm not understanding the defeatist attitude here. Like I said, there are THOUSANDS of foods out there. So what do you like and how can you make it a part of your eating plan?

You say it makes you "sick" to eat "that kinda food" ... but I don't know what "kinda" food you're talking about. :)

Salad? So ok, don't eat salad. What do you want to eat? What flavors do you like? What kinds of things can you fix at home and bring with you? An apple? Some string cheese? What about yogurt? Peanut butter sandwich? Oatmeal? What about raw carrots and dip?

There are lots of folks here who are willing to help and make suggestions, but we do need *some* information to go on here. :)

I'm not trying to have a "defeatist attitude" I'm just tired of yo-yo dieting between low carbs, low fat, veggies and fruits only, etc... for 10 years with little progress.

Im pretty sure my body is just messed up from being forced to try so many different diets when I was an early teen because my mother bought into those "hollywood juice diets" and the metabolife pills and all that stuff. And it was always 2 oz of plain meat, half a fruit, a cup of veggies and water for meals.

and obviously none of that ever worked for me

Now I just look at "healthy" food with a sad, tired of trying kind of attitude..where I'd rather just starve than be forced to eat that same kind of food. I still feel like I am trying to impress my mother an often buy into those late night diet fad infomercials hoping that paying 150 bucks for some guy to tell me what to eat and when will be easier.

anyway ill figure it out. sorry you wasted your time.

Katie,

I'm not sure what to say here. I asked you some questions to try to help you and your response was: anyway ill figure it out. sorry you wasted your time.

If that's not a defeatist attitude, I don't know what is. What response do you WANT? You say you don't like healthy foods - please help. I try to help by giving my thoughts on healthy food. You say that's not what it is, foods just make you sick. So I ask what foods do you like ...

And you say "sorry I wasted your time"???

Sorry I wasted yours trying to help you as you asked for. Next time just tell me what you wanted me to say in the first place and I won't waste YOUR time trying to be helpful.

Because I have asked for help (and read other posts by members.usually newbies..asking for help) and while you may think you are really helping sometimes you come across as rude and like a know it all... and maybe you are super knowledgeable.. you have lost a lot of weight or whatever..great for you...but others of us are struggling more..especially the people with alot of weight to lose or people that are really new to this site

i like it when i can relate to people on this forum not feel like they are talking down to me.

maybe youre doing nothing of the sort... the beauty of the internet is that its really easy for people to say one thing and for people to read it and interpret it a totally different way.

i dont know what you want; a list of foods I like?

apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, beans, lettuce, spinach, broccoli, peppers and tomatoes cooked in sauce or stews or whatever, most meats, pastas, rice,etc...

I like pretty much anything just depends on the day, my mood, how sick I feel that day.
Like I said, I am not trying to have a negative attitude..Im just not sure what I am doing wrong so that I go through each day feeling sick and none of those foods sound like something I care to eat so I eat nothing and end up feeling more sick.

Yea and I dont want to be talked down to when Im asking for help.
