Sport Fitness
hey there, i'm an off-road mountain biker, venturing over here to pick the brains of people in the know...

on mtb forums, the main approach to fitness is to ride 5 miles for every pork pie eaten and 3 for every pint drunk.

i've been recently diagnosed with an over active thyroid, which, as far as i can tell, just means i have an extremly high metabolism. i'm a poor student and can't afford either a constant supply of diet supplements or expensive gym membership. however, i want to gain some weight, but not too much (currently 168cm and 135 lb) but pretty fit. i know (well, think) that i need to consume more protein to stand any chance of bulking up. i know that it's an extremly simple view, but is it correct? in which case, i guess that eggs are the way forward for me. how many whole eggs can i be consuming before i should think about before discarding the yolks? is there anything else i can do? i already have a pretty healthy diet with plenty of veg, pasta, rice, jacket potatos etc.

many thanks

I'm not sure exactly, your doctor will know best what to do since you havea hyper active thyroid.
but in gaining muscle mass, you will need to eat a lot more protein and carbs in your diet. there are many ways of getting these into your diet instead of just eggs, fish is another great way. i found a site a while back i'll see if i can find the link again to foods high in protein. other than your diet. it is best to work out with heavy weights at lower reps. however if you have never worked out with weights before then i would suggest staying at a weight that is or moderate difficulty but allows you to practice good form untill you can move forward. Get creative in your workouts, if you can't afford a gym membership i would suggest trying to buy a set of used dumbells. or weights. you should be able to find weights for at least 55 cents per pound if not cheaper.

Here are a few sites i just found with lists of food and the protein content. its a pretty helpful list,

here is a site with random facts on proteins and foods that contain protein

you can also check out this forum post also

good luck
