Help out a high school kid?

Hello everyone! A little background info: I'm a 17 year old girl who's going to be a senior in high school next year. One of the things I have struggled with my entire life is my weight. I am always borderline between healthy and overweight, and I really just want to get my weight down to healthy for good. I do have a pretty active lifestyle, as I swim and play water polo. I workout everyday. However, I can't seem to lose weight and every year I gain weight. When I was a freshman, I probably weighed around 130 lbs, give or take. Three years later, I weigh about 145 pounds. (I'm 5'4") Granted, I did gain a lot of muscle along the way, and I still have a lot of muscle today. I have a pretty athletic build, with strong shoulders and legs. But the one thing that I can never be satisfied with is my stomach. I feel like I will never look good in a swimsuit like all of my friends. I'm scared because my entire life I've put on weight every year, and I don't want that to continue anymore. At this rate, I'll never stop gaining weight.

My main problem is the way I eat. I'm really looking for some advice to help me eat healthier, because I think my lifestyle is active enough. The problem is, in the summer all my friends want to do is go out to eat at places like Panera, Chipotle, Chick Fil A, Portillos, McDonald's, etc. I go to graduation parties and there's a whole table of dessert. I love to bake and want to make all these indulgent things... I mean, it's summer! For teenagers, a big part of summer is about eating and sleeping and not doing much. And it's so hard for me to turn that down to work out and eat healthy. I know it's worth it, but I actually am upset that I can't just take some days to eat whatever the hell I want.

So does anyone have any advice about staying strong and eating healthy all the time? Is it ok to take splurge days every once in a while? Or eat dessert on some nights?

You need to find a way to control your overall caloric intake. It doesn't matter if you eat above of what you should one day, but if you repeat that over and over you will start gaining weight eventually.

The easiest thing you can do is to count calories, really. You CAN still indulge in desserts / sweets / etc but it must be within your calories. IF you happen to over-eat one day, then eat a little less on the next one. It's the overall balance of calories over time that will dictate weight gain / maintenance / loss.

That is really the only way there is... You don't need to ban any food or modify habits, but you still need to apply moderation, that's all there is to it. Other people will tell you that you need to eat a certain way or buy their products or 'detox' your body or some other nonsense in order to lose weight, but it doesn't work that way.

Try to get your friends on the band wagon as well, instead of going out to eat pack up a homemade lunch and go to the park or have lunch at someones house instead.

You could just go by this. More unhealthy calories more exercise required. A few bad eating habits is ok occasionally. you need to work out a good balance
