Help Needed

Hello all. I am new to this forum and was hoping I could maybe get some insight. Here's my issue: I'm a 23 year old male, 6 ft 1 in tall, currently weighing around 335 lbs. I was a 3 sport athlete in high school and wrestled and played football in college. Being out of college recently, I've kinda let myself go, and was looking for some suggestions on some diets and work out routines that can get me back to where I want to be physically, which is around 240-250 pounds. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hey there, welcome aboard!

You are asking pretty general things, so I would suggest that you take an hour or so (you will need it) and just read the articles found in this thread HERE. This is a collection of things you need to know and helpful hints and tips.

It was those articles in that thread that taught me what I know and have got me to where I am in my weight loss journey.

I hope that helps, and any specific questions, there are tons of helpful people that will give you some answers.

Good luck :cheers2:

Welcome! I am also 6'1" and when I was about 21 I was probably close to 325# (although I never stepped on a scale) and now I am down to 250#, but looking to drop more. My biggest suggestion is to watch portion size and frequency. I eat pretty much what I want, but by eating less I have actually started eating healthier. That is probably the biggest factor for me. I also go to the gym and vary my routine regularly.

Do check out those links. Good stuff there.

Portion control and small changes one at a time will get you where you want to be in the end. Just remember that this is possible and that you can do it and you will succeed. It takes time and determination but the reward is great

Weight loss for the former athlete

It makes sense you gained weight. While not playing sports you don't need as many calories. Also, I wonder if you are bored right now not having as much to do and eating because of that. Well, there are two things to this. Eat less because you are no longer an athlete, or get to working out like an athlete again.
However, if you are not planning on going back into sports anywhere soon, I would really focus on learning how to maintain a healthy weight without all that exercise. You need to realize and get it straight in your head that you won't need to eat that much anymore. When you get your food, take some away from it and then eat. Seriously, you need to change that habit of how much you used to eat.
Second, I would go to the gym and start picking up the weights again. Not too much, perhaps three to five times a week and then no longer than 40min. There is nothing that helps you maintain your weight like muscles do. Also, lifting weights helps your metabolism get burning again.

To conclude, get real with your portion size and get to the gym.
