Sport HELP!!! My wife is a picky eater and hard to motivate!

Sport Fitness
Ok so we have been doing this whole nutrition thing for about a week now and my wife is really getting upset at eating so much chicken. She wants me to push her because its something she says she really wants. But I just cant seem to get her mind off of emphasizing food so much. We ate 4 meals with chicken in them last week. And she thinks we have to eat chicken all the time. Can you guys please give us some tips on Meals.. What are some good chicken meals you guys eat? Pork meals? and Turkey meals. and how bad is beef when you are trying to lose weight? I have read so many people say its bad for you and others say its fine as long as its lean. I am tired of her self esteem being so low and being depressed all the time. it isnt healthy for her.

If your wife REALLY wanted to do something about her weight, she'd do it herself.

She's using you as a crutch and that sets you up as her whipping post when she doesn't succeed.

Don't buy into this crap. You can't boost her self-esteem -- only she can because it comes from within.

She might actually try going to the gym to lose weight, too.

we do go to the Gym. She has never had that experience of someone pushing herto do something hard. She is plenty successful at other things. she just needs that push in the beggining. Once she gets going on things she is fine. I dont want to boost her self esteem personally I want to show her how to succeed at loosing the weight she wants to loose and by doing this he self esteem will raise its self. Some people need to be aproached with a different angle. I guess I just need to wheen her off of the crap food. I am a cold turkey person (i also like it warm) I can change at the snap of a finger because I believe it is all in the mind.... but unfortunately it takes some peoples ways a few more ticks of the tocks than others to really change their ways.

this sounds eerily familiar....anyways...

Foods to eat: Chicken, LEAN beef, salmon, lean ground turkey, veggies, pork...

I understand which foods to eat, I read the grocery list. I was just wondering if anyone has any meals that they really like under these catagories....IE

Chicken
chicken caciatori
bbq chicken
chiken a la marinara

etc....

Thank you very much for your input.

The second one is less of a cook book but still has great info. I dont even eat chicken anymore, I burnt myself out on it. I prefer beef and I eat regular. However as I have recently found out, grass fed is the way to go. I dont even eat lean because fat wont kill you. But you do have to be more cautious of calories with beef.

Turkey and beef generally have the same fat/protein content. Turkey is just cheaper. You may want to look at for some awesome grass fed beef and other great products.

Sorry...reading that you had 4 chicken dinners in 1 week led me to believe you didn't know what else was a good healthy meal to make up.

Hmmm, the loin nutritional analysis at lists that the fat content is 63.7% saturated, 32.3% unsaturated, including 2.2% polyunsaturated (including the omega-3 and omega-6 fats). Note the listings in the lower left corner, and the :0 (saturated) fats that are listed, but not highlighted, in the main table.

Someone with a family history of heart disease and/or tendency to high blood LDL levels may want to monitor their blood LDL levels if s/he eats a lot of beef fat, even from this grass fed beef.

You seem to be looking for some actual recipes. I try to eat clean as much as possible, so that limits things some, but if you are just looking for low cal there are a ton of options. Here are some things I do with chicken:

Marinade it in low fat salad dressing overnight, then bake in oven

Chop it up and use it in chili or tacos

Stir fry with veges

I thought I had to give up chicken fingers until I found this recipe in Clean Eating magazine:
2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1/2 cup skim milk
1 tbsp honey mustard
1/4 cup sliced almonds
1/4 cup old fashioned oats
1/2 cup whole wheat bread crumbs
1 Tbsp dried parsley flakes
1/2 tsp black pepper

1. Preheat oven to 375, lightly coat a baking sheet with cooking spray
2. Trim fat from chicken and cut into strips
3. Stir milk and mustard together, in a seperate bowl combine, almonds, oats, bread crumbs, parsley and pepper
4. Dip chicken into milk, then dredge them in the dry ingredients
5. Arrange on baking sheet and bake for 14-16min turning once, or until chicken is cooked

And I do agree with the others, once she makes up her mind to change her body she will do it. When I changed my eating habits, it took a while. I had to keep looking at which item was healthier than the other, I know I couldn't have made the switch overnight.

Take a look at her favorite recipes and see how you could make them healthier. In baked goods, switch white sugar to splenda, white flour to wheat flour, vege oil to applesauce. When cooking something like pasta, use whole wheat pasta, change your beef to 93%. There are a lot of small changes you can make to your favorite meals to make them healthier.

Try instead of french fries put a cut up sweet potato in a ziploc bag with an egg white, shake to cover then place on a baking sheet and sprinkle with cinnamon and splenda or chili powder, bake at 425 for 30min.

Replace cream in recipes with skim milk, instead of butter and sour cream on your baked potato use salsa or low fat yogurt.

Good luck!

Well considering that sat fat doesnt increase cholestrol levels, I wouldnt worry. However the main reason to eat grass fed over grain is that the omega 3 to 6 ratio is about 1 to 1 or 1 to 2. Grain fed is about 1 to 16 or higher.

One of the greatest quotes I ever heard was, "Of all the people who have high cholestrol that I know, none of them eat alot of saturated fat." - Antonio Valladares

Personally I know two people with high cholestrol. One is a vegetarian and the other eats mostly pasta. Want to lower your cholestrol levels, eat less carbs.

Good book on the topic:

Ravnskov is definitely in the minority with respect to blood cholesterol levels. The more common viewpoint is found in this paper and many other places:

My own experience with my own LDL levels seems to match the more common view that saturated fat raises LDL levels, not the Ravnskov view.

Of course, blood cholesterol levels are heavily influenced by genetics; diet and exercise effects are merely added to the genetic baseline you are dealt.

With only 2% of the fat being polyunsaturated, the omega-3 to omega-6 ratio difference between grass fed and grain fed beef is unlikely to make a significant nutritional difference, unless you eat a lot of beef fat. You would need to eat 100g of US Wellness grass fed beef fat to get 1.89g of omega-3 polyunsaturated fat. In contrast you could eat a 198g serving of wild coho salmon with 11.7g of fat (and 42.8g of protein) to get 2.92g of omega-3 polyunsaturated fat (with 0.41g of omega-6 polyunsaturated fat).

Well I am offering alternatives to chicken like he asked for. It gets boring only eating fish and birds. If you're gonna eat beef, eat the best.

I seem to have her Remotivated. I figured it was just the fact that it was getting harder for her in the beggining and she just needed to get over that speed bump. I will share my favorite Recipe with you guys/gals.

CHICKEN TACOS:
1 can Rotel Tomato
2 chicken breasts
Salsa
low fat cheese
corn tortilla (flour if you must)

Cut up your chicken into small bits (~1/2")
pour your protel into a pan and place the cut up chicken in the rotel
stove should be on Medium-medium high heat
add abou a half can of water. cook on medium until water is pretty much evaporated.

Then serve on tortilla with your favorite healthy condiments.
