Help me train for a 12k

I'm going to run a 12k in Oct. I haven't worked out since my gallbladder surgery in Feb. I think I'll need a couple weeks of walking on the treadmill before I actually start running. I admit I am out of shape. I have a jiggly mommy belly, flabby arms and too much chunk in my trunk. I know I'm not far away from being in decent shape, I just don't know what steps to take to get there, especially now that I've committed to a 12k (the farthest I've ever run is 10k). In the past, I've never trained properly before a race but now that I'm 38 and flabby, I know I'll need to do it right. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Start the first one, and then after you finish a 5k run, it doesn't have to be a race, go for the second one. The methodology is the same, if you can run 10k you can run 12k. Best of luck :D

I started April 11th with running at 5.5 on the treadmill. I think I made it to 2 miles or so. The day before yesterday I ran 5 miles in 46.97. It takes a while to get there.

I start running at a 5.8 speed and then slowly go up. If stay at 6.4 later on I can easily run 6/7 miles. I work out 5-6 times a week for about an hour.

So, looking at your goal - start slowly and increase over time. You are probably looking at 3 months to reach your goal from where you are right now. Of course - everyone is different and I am just using my own experience as a measure here. ;) Good Luck.
