I am really working hard to get back in shape, lifting weights and trying to eat smart. I am trying to come up with a good list of foods hopefully a good variety to eat during the week. i like to eat something every 3 hours and i work so help add anything onto here. And can anyone tell me if fat free yogurt is good or not? Thanks for any help

Tuna fish
Chicken breast (boneless skinless) - Grilled
Wheat Bread
Corn
Green beans
Pork Chops
Salad
...

why are you looking at fat free yogurt? fat isn't your worst enemy... the low fat or even full fat versions might give you more satisfaction

I love dannon light and fit yogurt, especially if you mix in fruit and oatmeal or some other crunchy cereal.

Hmm I'll give you what I eat a lot of...
*Cottage cheese is another big one.
*Because I'm busy, I'll prepare some sort of veggie mixture and then cook it in some way with a few different spices. For lunch the next day I take the mixture and either wrap it up in a whole wheat tortilla or throw it over a salad. Its delicious.
*Baby carrot sticks
*Apples and almond butter
*bagged baby spinach or other baby lettuce blends (as long as its dark lettuce, no iceburg)
*brown rice with veggies
*baked tofu - seasoned is great on whole wheat bread
*frozen edamame - heat up with a little salt and pepper
*dried fruit (craisens, dates, etc)
*almonds - I get the 100 calorie packs because otherwise I tend to overdue it
*frozen salmon filets
*assortments of whole grain, high fiber granola bars - great for work

I'll edit if I can think of anymore big ones.

For some reason i was under the impression eating rice was bad. Are you saying i can make brown rice and just throw some broccoli on it and have a meal?

I've posted lists a million times around here....

I don't really like lists b/c it leads people to believe that they can and can't have certain foods. It doesn't work that way though. Eat what you like. Just be certain to account/control your calories and get the proper amount of essentials such as protein and good fats. Beyond that, you're splitting hairs between white and brown rice or even between 50 calories from candy and 50 calories from pasta.

Certainly you should generally strive to intake as much nutrient-dense foods as possible. But don't cut all crap out of the equation.....

I've been saying this a lot, but the more hurdles you place in front of yourself, the higher the odds are that you'll fall flat on your face. And anymore, it seems like a lot of people have trouble picking their asses up after they fall.

That said, some general ideas are things such as:

Protein -- Chicken, turkey, pork tenderloin, flank steak, lean ground beef, ground turkey breast, cottage cheese, yogurt, milk, eggs, fish, protein powder

Fats -- avocados, nuts, fish, fish oil pills, flax, natural peanut butter, extra virgin olive oil

Carbs -- Whole wheat bread/pasta, wraps, rice, potatoes, yams, old fashion oats, veggies, fruits

These are obviously incomplete lists, but you get the idea.
