Help Me Become A Ninja Warrior - Hi Yah!

Hi everyone. I've decided to train for the tv show Ninja Warrior (known as Sasuke in Japan) seen on G4. If you haven't seen it, it's an number of intensely physically challenging obstacle courses all with a ninja them (sort of).

Any suggestions on what exercises would be best suited for this type of competition? I've been visiting my local park to train. Aside from that, I only have a set or dumb-bells up to 30lbs each.

I've been focusing on pull ups and leg exercises. I'm a strong jumper and have good balance thanks to surfing.

Any and all help, suggestions, comments are appreciated.

I started a little blog to follow my training (if anyone cares) at .

Crossfit

On obstacles like the jump hang, spider walk, etc-- you are pretty much guaranteed to fail on your first try. You must find some way to practice these things before actual competition if you want to do well.

Other than that, train in gymnastics and crossfit.

Love the show! all cool stuff I can't do.

Crossfit is a good idea.

Break down a few of the courses and work it all.

Jumps
pull-ups (with finger tips)
rope climb
curtain hang
horizontal ladder

Plenty of plyometrics, body weight training and explosive movements. Things like burpees, bastards (burpee with a press up) Jump pull ups (stand under a bar and jump up and perfrom one pull up, return to the ground and repeat) vertical jumps, bear crawls, alligator crawl with a press up, tuck jumps, forward jumps onto a step or platform, lateral jumps over a step. Also work on your core strength and stability with exercises like the plank, side plank, hanging leg raises and swiss ball crunches. Good luck.

Thanks so much!

These are all great suggestions. Thanks everyone. I'll look into doing all of the suggested exercises. If I make it through the try outs this Saturday, I'll let you know.
