Sport Help - I'm going crazy.

Sport Fitness
Hey everyone,

I'm fairly new to this message board and all I can say is that I'm going crazy. Why? Well, I'll explain..

First of, my main goal in this journey is to lose my extra fat (love handles and bit of a tummy) and I can't seem to figure out how to eat. I've read and heard from different places that the main thing to focus on is on the calories ... others says low-fat, some low-carbs and others low carbs and low fat.

To tone up before getting into muscles and all of that.. how should I eat? What should I focus on? Today, I had 68% fat, 23% protein and 9% of carbs. Is that good or is that too much fat?

I've been looking around the message board for GOOD weekly menus, but I can't seem to find anything.

Thank everyone!

That seems like a lot of fat, regardless of whether it fits into your daily calorie totals. Also, 9% carbs seems like waaayyy too little, especially if you are doing lifting, HIIT, or other forms of cardio.

Read the Nutrition 101 sticky at the top of this forum to get some good, basic info.

Thanks to both of you for replying. I appreciate it! :) I already checked the Nutrition 101 but I'll give it another look. I might've missed some important stuff.

Looking forward to what some others have to say

hahahaha

I'm not a nutritionist, or even edumacated-- but I would lkike to see what you ate to get those numbers. hahahaha A pound of dark chocolate, and a gallon of vitamin D milk?

way too much fat. you really don't want fat to be more than 35% of calories ever...30% is a better 'average'.

at the end of the day it does boil down to total calories..but all calories are not equal. My recommendation is to watch your carb intake. Rather than going ultra low carb (like Atkins diet) I suggest cycling carbs, going pretty low on carbs on days you do cardio (or have free day) and moderate carbs on the days you weight train.

on low carb days, eat more protein to maintain the same calorie intake day in, day out. this might mean some days you're eating close to 300g of protein and only taking in 50-60g of carbs, half of that being veggies (so, fiber carbs)

That's funny. My guess was a stick of butter, two eggs and a cracker!

I personally like to keep things simple and not worry about "numbers". Like you're saying, it'll drive you nuts! Keep things simple and eat what feels "natural". What I mean is tune into what you're body is telling you when you eat...you'll learn the satisfaction signals and know when and what to eat (and when to stop! ...haha)

I keep a very simple set of "rules" in mind

*eat 5-6 times a day (every 3 hours or so)

*eat palm sized lean protein with each meal

*eat veggies and/or fruit with each meal

*eat good fats throughout the day (fish oil caps, olive oil, avacadoes, butter, egg yolks, raw nuts, etc)

*drink TONS of water all day

*take a multivitamin and green tea caps (or drink it...)

*eat your "carbs" (whole grains, etc) after your workout ...and maybe for breakfast if it works for you

Then don't "focus" on it anymore than that. No number crunching, no confusion, no nothing!

Maybe that all seems too generic to some people... but I like it simple! There's too much complication going on around me in this world to make more worries for myself...haha
