Help!!!! I am going crazy!!!!!!!!!

my daughter is 1.5 weeks into her summer holidays, i usualy go to the gym while she is at school but obviously cant do this during the 7 weeks of school holidays. the creche at the gym is closed during the summer holidays.

i was relying on my exercise bike at home for cardio and my free weights ti keep me going till i can get back down the gym in september.

2 weeks ago my exercise bike packed in on me,, 3.5 years of good use and its now broken.. i cant afford another one at this stage. i nearly died when it broke.. my world came crashing down around me.

i have not done any proper cardio in over 2 weeks now.. i have been doing free weights at home and have been relying on 30-60 minute walks with daughter.

i love to run and go to spinning classes and i am going out of my mind not being able to do any intense cardio to get me realyl sweating...

i have put on a little bit of fat and am not feeling so happy about the body at the moment.

please help.. any ideas????

Just go to the park and do some high intensity running! It takes less time than steady-state cardio, and if you've been doing the same kind of cardio for a while, it will be great to shock your system. :)

Go play soccer with your daughter - soccer is probably some of the best intensity training you can do.

Try just this:
Sprint for 1 minute
Jog for 2 minutes
Repeat 6-7 times

This will take you less than 30 minutes and you will still get a hell of a workout.

If you take your weights and develop a circuit training routine, you will get both cardio and strength training out of it. :)

aww thanks for those ideas and im gonna be a total pain in the butt here with what i am gonna say now...
i would love to be able to go for a run round the park but i just cant with daughter unless there is someone else there to watch her.. wouldnt want her sitting alone while i go off running coz there is dodgy people round here n i don't trust anyone as far as i can throw them.
i have a serious lack of people who can help me out coz my mum, sister and friends all work full time... i am a single parent so its not as if i have a husband to have daughter while i go out runnin for 30 mins.
i'm really not making up excuses here but daughter is only 4 and a half and cant even really kick a ball properly let alone play soccer.

when she is 6.. i am deff gonna enrol her in some form of martial arts so that i can go aswell.. that way there will be no worries about getting someone to babysit while i go out n train.

That is a good decision to not leave your daughter unattended. Rep +1.

Try skipping rope. That will allow you to inexpensively get a great cardio workout and stay home with your daughter.

jump rope at home, do weighted jumping jacks, mountain climbers and plyometrics. All these exercises get you sweating!! And I'm guessing your daughter would love to jump rope with you!!

Agreed! Sorry, I didn't get the gist of it from your orig. post. :p

Squat jumps and other exercises mentioned above can get your heart racing good! Jump rope is great too. If you look up Jump Rope, plyometrics, or isometrics on youtube you will get some great ideas. :)

Skipping, sprinting up and down stairs if you've got any, dancing, you could jog while pushing your daughter in the pram, fitness dvd while she sleeps, use your daughter as weights! Get creative, I know you're probably freaking out by try and make the most of it

Is a used jogging stroller in your budget? If not, whatever stroller you have would do. Pushing a four-year-old, even at a brisk walking pace for 20 minutes in a park, will give you a nice pump. Add five minutes every other day until you're up to an hour and then turn it into a 30-minute jog. You'll be back before you know it.

Take your kid to the park and try to keep up with them on the jungle gym. Those kids can move a lot faster than you on that equipment so they'll give you a run for your money chasing them around.

Also your kid will probably appreciate you actively engaging in the same activity as them when you go to the park, rather than most parents who just sit on the bench and watch their kids play or sit there pushing them on the swings.

After running up a slide 10-15 times and chasing a 4 year old through a structure that's too small for you to easily navigate through you should be plenty tired, and you'll look like a really good parent for being that involved with your kid.

Kids have way more energy than you do, and when they find something that's fun, they want you to do it again and again. So while it's not built for adults, jungle gyms and children are pretty good ways to sneak in thorough workouts during parenting hours.

Do you have a backyard you could run laps in maybe?

I'd highly recommend that you consider gymnastics. They have programs for children as young as 4, and it gives you a chance to get some good exercise at the same time as your kid.

Your daughter will have a lot of fun with it, and you can get your exercise while knowing that your daughter's within view of you, and in the hands of a trained coach you can trust.

Your daughter might be young, but she can still run, she can still roll around and jump, and gymnastics programs are very good at creating lessons geared towards playing with kids in a way which will help them develop the strength, flexibility and stamina which will give her a HUGE advantage when she starts doing martial arts with you.

I think gymnastic lessons are an ideal solution to your situation and to the health of you both.

HotRod has the right idea. You can find used ones on Craigs list (cheap or sometimes even free), Ebay or buy one from a goodwill or something if money is an issue. I use to run 6 miles a day with twins in a running stroller and with my Rottie. You can do it and the kids LOVED being pushed around enjoying the scenery!

Cheers!
