So the last few days I've kind of scrambled to get my calories in and I feel like I just throw things in to reach my cal intake.

I have my calories set low, because I am still get the exercise thing implemented.

Before I tried the healthy approach I would have traditionally cut back to 1200 calories. I would have rapidly dropped weight but then three weeks in would've broken down hopped right off the wagon.

Anyways, my habits lie in 200-300 calorie meals eaten frequently throughout the day, with breakfast being the 400 cal exception. Sounds good, but I try to put three hours inbetween all meals and snacks, and I am not hungry this way but then when dinner rolls around I suddenly need seven hundred or eight hundred calories fast and I end up loading cheese and mayo and...more cheese onto my dinner. I'm sure an eight hundred calorie dinner could be really healthy if I was eating most of it in whole grains, lean meats and veggies, but I always panic.

I also end up feeling super full and gross after a meal this big.

If I were to not reach 1800 cals some days, and instead reach 1600, would that be so bad? My BMR is something like 2300ish.

oh i dont' see a problem with it as long as its a 'here and there' kinda deal :)

I doubt it'd hurt. Most people underestimate their intake anyway. Usually by over 2-300. I personally struggle to stick to 2000. Usually I think I'm 2200-2300.

I think you'd need to be drastically under calories for an extended period to have problems.

Make sure you've got enough protein to maintain muscle though. If you're drastically under calories you'll lose muscle rather than fat so be aware of that.

Good luck

Oh I weigh food out, and count everything that goes in my mouth! Not obsessively, but I don't make guesses, at least.

If it isn't going to kill me. ^.^ I'm just trying to figure all this health stuff out slowly.

I have this week to experiment seeing as I lost five last week. Unless I gain six I think I'll be ok to figure out the best nutrition plan.

I've got the same problem, but I do it on purpose because at night I tend to get very hungry, and I don't want to feel guilty for getting completely full. But on days that I don't get the munchies or when I get an upset stomach, I feel stressed that I might be damaging my metabolism by eating too little. One thing that helps is drinking milk (or almond milk in my case) with your dinner. It's a great way to add in a few more calories without having to stuff yourself. :)

Hey walrus,

Maybe try making your last meal before your dinner meal a bit larger, say around 400 cals, and see if that helps you stick to your target calories for dinner. Another thing you could look at is whether or not you are getting protein into your small meals throughout the day. Protein can help you feel more full by stabilizing your blood sugars after meals or snacks.
