Hi im 31 and started working out at the end of February 07 hoping to lose weight. I started by just walking my dog around the block and now im walking him about 3 miles, 5 days a week and I also workout on eliptical for 20 min., 20 min on bike and low weights at least 3 days a week. So as you can see some days i spend about 2 hours working out burning 400-1000 calories a day depending of course on what i do that day.

Now I lost about 6lbs the first month then gained it all back and now I have stayed exactly the same. Everytime I get on the scale it is 186 why is this? I wont quit working out i feel great mentally and physically but the reason i started was to get down to my target weight of about 140 im 5'10.

what are your daily calories like?

It may be your diet. You may be taking in more than you are burning off. Diet makes a big difference, so I am told.

lets se today I have had 740 calories and only have dinner and a snake left so im guessing about 16-1800 a day.

Walking the dog is low intensity exercise. For the elliptical and the bike you don't say how hard your are pushing yourself, but if it's not up to at least 75% max heart rate then 20 minutes won't contribute much.

Really you need to find yourself a program which challenges your status quo to a much greater degree, through nutrition, cardio and weights.

Try keeping a food diary for a week , use sites like calorie-counter.com to figure out for sure how much your taking in each , I was quite suprised to see how many calories I was actually consuming.

Walking the dog is not always a low intensity exercise at all - it is a positive lifestyle change, a responsibility that lasts far longer than the average gym membership! Studies of dog walkers always find them to be fitter and healthier than the average non-dog owner. I lost 50 pounds and my exercise programmes consisted of dog walking, dog running, and dog cycling. Ok, and some time lifting weights in the gym, but they wouldn't let me dog in there ;) Check out my Flickr gallery for some examples of intense dog walking ;) Go Wolfy!
