Help! Cant stop gaining weight

AAll right, so a little background:

I am six foot four, about half a year to eight months ago, I weighed 230 to 240 pounds. Which wasnt bad, I was in the military and very active, most of it was muscle, I was very fit even if I wished I could drop about ten pounds.

So, I get out of the military, and between a month of partying and a month of not really doing too much exercise, I get up to 240-250 pounds, gaining a lot of fat and losing a lot of muscle. Eh, whatever, I wanted to relax and celebrate. I started working out again, but more relaxed than my military PT, doing weights every other day and walking the dog for about an hour every day.

I start gaining muscle back, but not losing fat. I get up to 250-260 pounds. I figure it is just going to take some time to get the fat burning kicking in. I start watching my diet and eating pretty healthy, oatmeal and fruit in the morning, salad with chicken in the afternoon, fish and salad at night, as a typical example.

I gain a lot more muscle and lose a bit of fat. But now I am up at 260-270 pounds. I don't look bad, I have a bit of a stomach and love handles I would love to lose, but my pants are the same size I had thirty pounds ago. I'm not doing crazy workouts, maybe an hour of weights every other day and walking the dog every day. But no matter what I do, I seem to gain weight. I wouldn't mind weighing around 250 if it was mostly muscle, but this fat is really sticking on, and gaining muscle without losing fat means I am really tipping the scales. I've gained about thirty pounds in eight months, and though I feel healthy and don't look too bad, I'm scared about just how high my weight will go, since no matter what I do I gain it rapidly. I would really appreciate any advice.

Ok, I am going to say something your probably already know but don't want to think about. To really start burning the fat you are going to need to really turn up the intensity on your workouts. You need an anaerobic workout. On the days you are not lifting weights try doing about 30 minutes of high intensity interval training. Get your heart rate up to 85 to 90% of your maximum heart rate (220 - your age) for a minute or so and then let it come down and repeat. This should charge up your metabolism and keep you burning extra calories for hours after your work out which will help you burn the fat. Good luck.
