Help an overweight 15 yr old!!

This is my first time on these forums so here it goes!!
Im 15, around 5,7 (172cm) and weigh around 87kg (190 pounds). I recently joined a gym (3 weeks ago). I was around 90 kg.
At the Gym i do:
- 40 min tredmill,walking and jogging.
- 10 min rowing
- around ten-15 min weights only for my arms
I plan add more tredmill and bicyle action.

The reason i dont do more weights is that a fit friend told me that if i do weights while im big all my cardio work will go down the drain and that ill look blown up. Most of my fat is in my stomach and chest (man boobage). Ive also cut down on the amount i eat. I longer drink soft drinks

Does anyone have any tips on what i should add to my gym work, what my friend said and how to get rid of fat in my problem areas. Any advice will help me alot. Thanks in Advance for any help!!

BTW i want to go down to 70-75kg, then get muscley

from what i know... i don't think what your friend said is true. you should do cardio and anaerobic routine at the same time. cardio will help you lose weight. anaerobic exercise like lifting weights will help build and tone muscle. the more muscle you have the faster you can actually lose weight because no matter what you do like even sitting and typing you're burn more energy.

Okay, so this is my routine at the gym after going through with a trainer about what to do...

Start your routine with stretches and maybe some crunches and leg lifts to work the abs. this will help loosen your muscles and also get your metabolism going. then you'd wanna do like 20-30 minutes of any cardio workout. then do a circuit around the gym working on all your main muscles... Try to work on your largest muscle groups first and then the smaller ones. And try to mix up the upper & lower body muscles. I do these every time I go:

Chest Press
Back Row
Leg Extension
Lateral Raise
Hip Adductor
Hip Abductor
Leg Curl
Biceps
Triceps
Lower Back

You don't have to do all of them or follow this but these work out all the major muscles of the body. You don't need alot of reps or sets... I tend to do 10-20 reps (depending on the muscle workout) and only 2 sets. By having more reps than sets, you build & tone muscles. (Later after you've lost some weight and you want to make them bigger, you'll want to do less reps like maybe 3-7 reps and many sets.) Then you do a cardio cool down for 15-30 minutes and finish up with stretches.

Hope that helps!

Aussie Nintendo, your friend is wrong

you should be doing weight training in addition to your cardio. you said you have just joined the gym, most gyms do fitness assesments including bodyfat measurements and will prepare a program of exercize for you based on your goals so talk to the gym and find out what they offer.

as you build muscle you will burn more calories making it easier to loose the fat but you need to keep up a good clean diet, don't just eat less but make sure you are eating the right foods.

doing just arms will not help your man boobs, you need to work each area of your body. and remember you can't spot reduce the fat.

free weights are better than machines but grab a staff member at the gym to make sure you are doing each exercize correctly.

my normal gym workout is in my diary. http://weight-loss.fitness.com/showthread.php?p=65119#post65119
