nuts and seeds. i dont eat any of them. i wanna add more healthy fat to my diet. when i go to the store and look for a trail mix, i get overwhelmed with choices. what am i looking for here??

thx for help guys, im new to this, and usually the rents are the ones shopping but i wanna take control of my diet.

The best advice I can give you is go for un-processed options. Anything messed with too much is generally not the best choice. Nuts and seeds are a great choice, just go for a mixed, raw nut mix.

I'm not a huge fan of carbs, for bulking or not, but if you must then try to avoid ground wheat products and their derivatives (especially bread).

I eat 3 good meals a day. I'm trying to get 3 good snacks in too. I drink lots of water while working out and during my work hrs.

What kind of nuts and seeds though. Does it matter. I see a lot of choices when I go shopping.

If ur not a fan of carbs how else should I get my energy or calories. I get plenty of protein in the day. At least 1g per lbs. I don't wanna go higher than that.

What r good sources of fat? Other than milk and dairy, since I get quite of bit of that to.

You want raw nuts if possible. If not available, get roasted UN-salted almonds...they have a better fat profile than peanuts (by a slim margin). Or raw sunflower seeds. I myself go with almonds.

Salmon 3x a week is good for fat intake too, and you can add fish oil caps as well if necessary.

I too am not a fan of bread. Its just so damn processed and FULL of ingredients. You're better off with old fashioned or steel cut oats. These require time to cook, so its a good breakfast item since you have no microwave during the day.

Veggies! You cannot overdo the veggies. Note: corn is a GRAIN, and potatoes can't be considered veggies due to their starch content. I'm talking green leafy veggies, etc.

Fruit is good too.

Milk and dairy should not be utilized as sources of fat, since they contain the fats we don't need much of and tend to get plenty of those fats from all the animal protein sources you're already eating.

Long grain brown rice is a good carb too on a bulk. Ingredients: rice, water. WAY better than bread.

If you MUST have some bread, Fiber One makes a good bread now that's widely available.
Also Mission brand tortillas makes a Carb Balance tortilla that's reasonable on carbs and LOADED with fiber.

You need 25g of fiber a day, especially on a bulk so you can keep the digestive system flowing.

Lastly: read LV's grocery list sticky post. It should eliminate the confusion.

In essence if you're shopping at a big chain grocery store, and eating healthy, you should be only buying from the outside perimeter of the store: produce, meats/chicken, dairy, and possibly a short trip down the cereal isle for oats, and the ethnic isle for rice. Maybe the freezer section for frozen veggies when fresh isn't in season. Frozen > canned.

Thx for the comments guys.. I'm going shopping tomarrow. I'm going to stalk up on some of those things. I'm going to really look at getting the raw nuts, brown rice, and some good bread.

I don't really like fish that much. I eat fish maybe 1 time a week. I eat lots of chicken usually lunch and dinner.. whatever was last nights dinner is the next days lunch. I eat some red meat maybe twice a week. But for sure I get some kind of animal every day.

I do get oats everday for breakfest with milk, and eggs. I eat lots of tortillas. Ill look for the mission brand wheat ones.
Lots of pinto beans, cheap and easy to make.

I eat a banana and a apple a day. For my snacks. I got some hemp protein to try it out, it has lots of fiber in it. So that's good.

I think the only thing I'm going to be slacking is the veggies. I don't mind them, the rents just don't make that many for the meals.

I'm going to go to a health food store instead. I think the customer service there is better so maybe they will help me choose between brands, which is my biggest problem.

Thx for help.

went to store, got help from 1 of the employees there and helped me pick some stuff out. i got raw nut mixed for a good price. i hope there not to hard cuz i have braces on.

also got some veggies, romaine lettuce, celery, and baby spinach.
i also got some brown rice. and got black beans instead of pinto since he said they where healthier.

also got some tuna cans in water, im thinking i can make a tuna sandwich or tuna salad with mustard instead of mayo.

now a new question with supplements. i dont wanna over do it. id rather get everything from food.
but i now they work.

i got hemp protein cuz of the fiber.
i already have creatine.
im thinking of getting glutamine. what do u think?
should i still get whey protein also for after workout?

im 5'9 143lbs age 25 at out 14%bf. looking to get bigger and stronger. been working out for at least a year.

no clue what sp250 is, but its probably garbage.

skip the glutamine, it doesn't really help.

since you don't eat salmon, fish oil caps are about the only other supplement you might wanna look into.

haha.. it problably is. its a preworkout drink. the best thing i get out of it is. it makes me wanna workout. kinda like. well i already drank it so i have to workout now!!..

thx for the help will look into fish oil at the health market.
