Hi everyone! It's been about a month since I joined this forum and I decided to post a new thread because I'm feeling kind of hopeless these days.

Age: 18
Weight: 155 lbs
Height: 5 ft. 6 in.
I want to weigh 120 lbs

I started gaining weight in middle school and I've been gaining weight ever since. I'm not severely overweight but I have A LOOTT of fat on my stomach, back and thighs. Last week I decided to start exercising and controlling what I eat because I'm sick of feeling uncomfortable in my own skin. I want to have confidence and feel good about myself so I'm determined to lose 35 pounds! I'm so out of shape but I try to run on the treadmill 5mph for 20 minutes and walk 4mph for an hour everyday. I'm afraid to eat because I feel like if I eat after I work out I'll gain everything back. I don't really know what I'm doing and I don't know what I should do. I'm really frustrated and lost. Do you think it's possible for me to lose 35 pounds in 5 months? What can I do to lose 35 pounds by the end of July? I need your help and advice!

Don't be afraid to eat. Just eat healthier foods and keep away from fast food and junky snacks.

Just keep walking/running, exercising and eating right and I'm sure you'll be able to lose that 35 lbs you want to get rid off. Good luck.

Don't Give Up!!

Don’t give up! I lost 55 lbs in around that time frame, so keep doing what you are doing. Walking an hour everyday and eating right is the best thing you can do, even though they are kind of expensive, buy foods that a low or have no fat in them and count you calories. I usually keep mine around 1500 to 2000 per day. Salad and soup are probably the best low calorie and most filling foods around. My wife eats a gigantic salad every day that clocks in at less than 50 calories and she is down 29 pounds since November.

Forget running, there is no point to it and it is not really that much fun. Keep walking every single day and eat right and you will see the difference.

The 1st part I defiantly agree with. You have to eat! But you have to know how much you are eating or better yet how many calories your eating. Because you can't cheat the laws of nature! If you intake more energy, calories, than you use every day that energy has to go somewhere. And our bodies are highly evolved to make sure we don't waste any potential energy so it will end up as stored fat.

The 2nd part here I'm not so much in agreement with. But given the depth of the subject of nutrition and how everyone has their own preferences when it comes to the types of food they eat I'll just say this. Don't be scared of food, rather just try your best to understand what type of food your dealing with. If your going to eat say a cupcake understand that that food has a lot of calories even thou that might not seem like much when you eat it. However, if you want to eat a cupcake, or a slice of pizza, or whatever you should! Just make sure you understand that those calories are still part of your daily total. (In that same vein understand that calories from drinks count towards your daily total too.)

Huh? I mean I don't get at all what this means. Your saying there is no point to running but advocate walking? Oookkk...

Running is just a higher form of steady state cardio. Walking is a lower form, a lesser impact. I actually like HITT mixed in with my steady state but one thing that I've learned is that exercise is a component unto itself.

By that I mean that just because you might exercise you can't expect that to change the way your body will deal with food. If you take in too much energy, calories, even if you are exercising you will still not lose weight!

Anyway I've said enough for someone who is not a professional. Hopefully someone like Steve will come by and correct all my errors and stuff. :p
