Help; 150lbs to 220lbs

How long will it take me to go from 150lbs to 220lbs by working out?

I weigh 150lbs, with 16% body fat. I’m 17 and I’ve never worked out before. I will be doing 2 months of muscle endurance workouts so I don’t hurt myself (3 sets 12-15 reps), then I will be doing power lifting until I reach 220lbs. I don’t want hurt myself, so what is an estimated time frame this will take? I am on a 3 day schedule now.

I am asking this because I got in this stupid bet with my twin brother to race and see who can reach 220lbs first for $1000. I know this will take a long time, and I am willing to do it for 3 reasons. I’ve always wanted to workout. I want the $1000. I want to stay in the general strength range as my bro. Who wants to be the week twin brother? We are on the same schedules, and are roughly the same size now.

if youre lookin at 70 pounds of muscle a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time...

Different ppl gain weight at differetn paces, so its hard to tell. But 70 pounds is a ton of weight to put on for anyone. How tall are you?

Also youll probly want to consider protein and other supplements and make sure your diet is right. (check out the nutrition section) Your gonna have to take in a hell of a lot of calories each day and a lot of protein. But it can be done.

I know a guy whos 27 now and weighed 150 pounds in highschool. He dedicated himself to football and weighlifting and gained about 100 pounds in 4 years. He ended up playin in the CFL (canadian football league) as an offensive lineman. Knee injuries ended his carreer unfortunately, but like I said, if your dedicated enough (he worked out every day and took in a redicoulous amount of calories) you can accomplish anything.

Good Luck

alright...well as everyone else said 70 pounds is a rediculous amount of weight to gain. it can be done but you have to take care of everything, you cant just work out blindly. my advice:

- talk to a personal trainer
- talk to a nutritionist

tell them both your goals and they should be able to help you. i also include the nutritionist because just working out and not having a balanced diet won't give you nearly as much as eating a huge amount of calories, of carbs, and of protein as well as working out. but again, talk to both because you dont want to get fat, and you dont want to stay the way you are: you want to get ripped.

are you guys going by the honor system on this bet or are you weighing yourselves in front of eachother? if you guys weight yourselves in front of eachother try to wear a shirt and put a weighted vest on underneath it or something :p

Why don't you lower it to like, 20lbs and 100 bucks. something actually obtainable so you will motivate each other to do well instead of flying out in fantasy land

Ya, I think thats what were going to have to do. I had no idea how much 70lbs in muscle actually was when I made the bet.

We are twins, we are roughly the same weight. I weigh 150, he weighs 160ish. When he sais he weighs 230, then ill watch him weigh himself.

My highshool has a nutritionist and a personal trainer, Ill have to talk to them. Otherwise its like $40 an hour.

We changed our goal to 20lbs of muscle, and I searched for workout tips. I found skinnyguy.net. He has a 12 week program that apparently works great. His program tells you to jump right into heavy lifting but I heard its better to start with endurance lifting. Will endurance lifting have any benefit for me that I would need before I begin heavy lifting?
