Hello

My name is James, I am 37 years old and weigh 219.

My doctor has told me I need to change my lifesyle, eating choices and excersise because my blood pressure is a little high. 6 weeks ago I decided to start eating healthier, 4 weeks ago I started walking, and 3 weeks ago I became more aggressive by treadmill walking and weight training.

I am in this for the long haul, so far have been loosing about 1 pound a week. When I started I weighed 235 and now am at 219, my goal is 190.

I have been reading these forums for about 2.5 weeks now and learned a lot-thanks to everyone for their posts, and to the pro's for their informative reply's. Without this website and it's great questions/answers, I would have felt alone in my journey.

James

Good to have you here!

:)

Thanks LV and Tony, it's good to be here.

I walk the treadmill 6 days a week, usually 3.5 mph at 5.5% incline (although it seems to increase daily) keeping my target heart rate at 119. It seems like a pretty good workout but sometimes I get the urge to work harder.

I also lift weights Mon, wed, and Friday concentrating on my abdominals, arms and chest. I know this is only a start and plan to include more muscles as I continue.

From what I have read, I need to eat more protein otherwise I could loose muscle. How many grams of protein do you guys recomend and can I get this from red meat or is that a no-no? I like chicken, Turkey and fish just fine, but cant stay away from the good stuff!

Ya try adding in back and leg work (walking doesnt count for legs). Concentrate on larger muslces ex: chest, back, legs the stronger the muslce, the more calories burned. Try lean meat, hey who can resist a good steak right. Try for 1 g of protein per lean pound of bodyweight.
