Hello, all. First post.

After years of ignoring my fitness, working behind desks and engaging in fairly sedentary leisure activities (reading and watching things - a bit of travel/hiking, but not nearly enough), I've been turning things around this year. I don't know exactly how much I've lost, but I've dropped three pant sizes. It's been at least 40 pounds, but I'm afraid if I start weighing myself, I'll get discouraged. The only reason I know it's at least 40 is that a small airplane insisted on weighing me a couple months back to make sure the load was distributed properly, so I got a little snapshot of my progress. Still have a ways to go, but it's a good start. Just thought I'd say hi, and see what this community is about.

Newbie question: does this forum have anything like 'direct messages'? I didn't see anything, but maybe you have to friend people first or something?
