New member here, just joined because I wanted to join a fitness forum, I just basically started trying to lose a little weight and build a little muscle.

I'm aiming to lose probably 20 pounds or something, I'm not all that heavy in the first place, but my main goal is to gain muscle. I'm not exactly strong at the moment. :(

I do have a couple questions, and yes, I'm very young and don't know anyone about weightlifting, but:

(a) If I curl 10lb dumbells, because I can't one hand curl the next highest weight, which is 25lb or something...but anyway, 10lb is light, but if I curl that, will I still gain any strength so I can lift higher? [Yes, I can lift higher than that now, but the weights that you buy around here have weird ranges)
