hello, everyone :)

i started a low GI diet about a month ago - i've (like so many others!) done the yoyo dieting thing, although it was never an actual 'diet', more like i wouldn't eat for a few days etc. that worked when i was younger, but now i'm in my late 30s, have two children and realised that i need to have a healthier lifestyle. i want to prevent things like diabetes and osteoperosis if i can - low GI seems ideal for that.

earlier this year i had to take three months off work due to a (long undiagnosed) vitamin b12 deficiency. once they found out what was wrong with me it was easy to fix with b12 shots every day for a while. trouble is, during the previous couple of months, while i had no energy i certainly had an appetite! spent most of the day lying on the couch stuffing pringles or chocolate (or both) in my gob. result? i went to the docs a few months ago and i was 80kgs for the first time ever. i tried doing the walk at lunchtime, eat three good meals and three snacks a day thing, but i put on weight after a month. fairly desperate, i found the montignac book and ordered it. i've found the low GI approach easy to follow, and i basically eat beautiful food all day - just more for breakfast and lunch and a little for dinner. i don't snack at all any more and i've been getting to the gym at least 3 times a week. so i'm currently at 73.3kgs, but can't wait to get to 69kgs which will put me in the healthy bmi range. i was hoping to get there by jan 1, but of course the christmas parties are kicking in and well, you know how that goes :)

anyway, nice to be here. good luck to everyone with their goals :)

Sorry to hear you had it so rough for a while! Glad your better!

Sounds like your on the right track to loosing weight...just keep at it. Thats the hardest part of dieting, the long haul, as they say. We are here for you!

You could start a diary, we keep track of our calories and excersize there.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!

thanks for the kind welcome, newbride :)

i've taken your advice and started my food and weightloss diary! its a great tool and i find it really useful because otherwise i just forget what i've eaten. i've never counted calories but i'm thinking i might have to start because i might be having too many.

you're definitely right about the difficulty in keeping going! i've decided mine is not a diet but just a healthy eating plan for life. i've cut out (well, mostly :D) sweets and treats for the weightloss portion of my plan, but once i'm at my goal i'll be more relaxed. this is the best way for me to go, i think.

thanks again : )

Oh yea, counting cal's is very important.....Once, I had lost alot of weight and I thought, I know what i'm doing, I don't have to count the cal's anymore. Well, I couldnt' loose weight after that and I didn't know why. Then I started counting cals again and dropped weight fast. So, now I do it no matter what!

you've lost a lot, so i'll take your advice! i think initially i just thought it would be that bit more pressure - so i've backed off. i'll check out the calorie counter thingie on this site and see if i can get it sorted. i usually get no or lo fat options if i can, but i know that the calories can sneak up!

another challenge - its fun :)
