The reason I joined this site was that I was hoping someone could give me a tip. I should tell you "my story" before I ask the exact question I have.
In January 2005 (I was 20 years old at the time) it finally hit me that I was obese (had been for a long time, but that's when it really hit me in the face). My height is 170 cm (about 5'7") and my weight at the time was 96 kilograms (211 pounds). That's when I realised it was time to do something, so I started a whole "crusade" against my extra weight (yes, I know it sounds like something out of a movie, but that's how it felt for me). So for the whole year 2005 I was on diets and also started to exercise. The only exception I made through the whole year was some cake on my b-day but aside from that it was diet-diet-diet. Anyway, it worked very well it seemed and by January this year I "exited" the "obese" category, now I am slightly overweight. My height is the same but my weight has reduced to 75 kilograms (165 pounds). But still that is not my ideal weight, that would be something below 70 kg (more like 65-67kg). The problem is that I can't seem to lose weight anymore. I read in many places that at some point, after losing a lot of weight, the body somehow "balances" and hits "rock bottom" (even if that's not the ideal weight) and this barrier is hard to break. So my question would be, can anyone give me a tip on how to break this? Maybe someone who knows what I'm going through? I mean I am using basically the same thing which lost me 46 pounds last year, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. Thanks a lot :)

Welcome to the site!

I don't have any insight for you as I have not lost enough weight to hit a plateau, but there are many people here I am sure will respond. Good Luck and Welcome.

Thanks for the welcome message. That is what I was hoping to find, some people who can give me a tip, anything. I haven't lost even 0,5 kilos in the last month, using the exact same "technique" as last year, so you can understand I'm kind of frustrated.

Hey you, I'm new here too, I have been in a similar position to yours a while back, I went to see a personal trainer, and she told me it was my routine that was doing it to me, if you continue to do the same thing your doing, both diet and exersize, the metabolism becomes dormant, therefor, preventing further weightloss, If that is indeed what your situation is, maybe try something a bit more challenging in your exersize routine, like areobics, or running, The trainer told me the number one way to beat a plateau is an accelaerated heart-rate! Good luck, I'm sure you'll beat it! And again, nice to meet you!

Thank you Sarah. I think I broke thru (finally). I did what you said, got my heart-rate up. Now I spend at least one hour a day on my exercise bike. You see, my routine was like 30 minutes a day combined with diets and a few kilometers of walking in the park. So now I switched to 60-90 minutes of "cycling" per day and I seem to have broke through, I lost 1 kilo already :) Fingers crossed for me please ;) And again, thanks, your tip helped me.
