This is my first time posting to a board. Like everyone else here, I am trying to loose weight. I have hypothyroidism and no matter what I do I can't loose weight . Six years ago I lost 30 pounds doing Taebo. I had a baby the following year and put on 50 pounds . I was able to loose most of it, but is back again. In the past year I went up two sizes. Ever since I went back to school 2 years ago, I have been gaining 10 pounds per semester.
I started doing Taebo once again this week since it worked before. Anyone here has hypothyroid? Is there something else I should be trying. I have very low energy and I am always moody.
Welcome to the forum!! I have hypothyroidism too. (Notice the name. Haha!) I have found that just because you are on medicine for it doesn't mean you are going to be able to lose even if the doctor says you will. It is much much harder to lose with this problem because your metabolism is so slow. I was losing for awhile (unfortunately, it seems like I had to break my leg, literally, to be able to) but now it seems to be slowing creeping back on. Just get you a good exercise routine. Tae bo is wonderful! Also, drink a lot of water and try to eat every 3 to 4 hours. Good luck! If I find a magic cure for hypothyroidism, I'll let you know! Lol!
Try investigating foods that are suppost to help you metbolise faster... green tea with caffine helps.. and i am sure others know some tricks. If you eat the right food.. it should help you out. Ask in the nutrition section Welcome!
Thanks for your advice Hypo Hippo. This is my first time joining a support group and I am glad I did. Everyone here is so friendly. I have tried everything to loose weight, but it seems that this condition makes it much harder. Do you have an exercise routine?
Hi Avi2Kat,
I will give green tea a try, but I read once that caffeine slows down the weight loss process. Is this true?
Hey Gothika! I don't have what you would call an exercise routine because I really did break my leg in January. I had surgery to have a rod inserted in my bone. I had to stay off of it completely for awhile, so i was in a wheelchair for several months. Then I had to start putting weight on it slowly. Once I could put any weight on it, it took about a month before I could put my full weight on it and it was painful! I'm still at the point where I am only about 80% healed so my "exercise" is limited to walking which is then further limited by pain most of the time. Even when I was sitting pretty much all of the time, I was able to lose some weight. The only time I would get up would be when I would hop around holding up my leg and using my walker. All I was doing then was eating healthy, keeping track of what I was eating by posting it here, drinking lots of water (that was just about all I would drink, except milk), and trying to eat every few hours. I've been told that keeps your body from thinking it needs to hold onto every thing you put in to it cause it knows it will get more soon and not be starving. Feel free to look through my diary. I apologize, but it is extremely long and there are lots of ramblings and times when we go waaayyy off of the weight loss topic. Have you started a diary? I'll look for you in the diary thread. Also you can PM me anytime you like.
Hey Hypo sorry about your leg. I hope you feel better soon so you can get back on the wagon . I realized that when you have hypothyroid watching your weight is not enough, we need to work out to keep it off. It is so hard to find time and energy. Those pills do nothing.
I had surgery 6 weeks ago (nothing like breaking a leg though), and I know is hard to get back on track. I actually just started exercising slowly this week. I tried a few weeks ago but I hurt myself and one of my stitches almost pop .
I do not have a diary, but I read some of your diary posts and I see what you mean about going off the weight loss subject . So how is the pool coming along? Did you get in it yet? I heard pool is great for physical therapy.
BTW, I also love ice cream, and sometimes I give in to those temptations. That is my biggest weakness .
Welcome to the forum Gothika! My Nutty Buddy (Hypo Hippo) is the best to have around and she would be one of the best sources of info for you Yup, we do get way off topic, but it makes this place that much more interesting LOL I like Tae-bo as well - WHAT a wonderful exercise it is! Starting a diary will enable more people to support you more often. Just something to keep in mind
