Hello everyone,

My name is Shakila Reed-Southerland and it's very nice to meet you all. I've came to this site looking for some GOOD advice. I've been trying to lose weight on and off for about a year now. I'm 5'4 and weight 180 lbs (usually). I'm very solid, so I do not look 180 lbs.

The problem i'm having is when trying to loose weight I can never stick to a diet. I'm a big meat and sweets eater. I cannot live without my bacon, porkchops, fried chicken and etc, and my sweet tooth is so crazy. I crave so much junk food. I know that's the worst for your midsection. But it seems when I try to diet, I'm never satisfied. Like i'm starving myself.

Growing up I was raised on hefty plates, I've never been a big girl. But I always ate big meals. So portion sizes does nothing for me. I actually start to feel sick when I don't eat bigger plates. lol

When I attempt to exercise I usually just run the treadmill. But it is sooooooooo boring. I dread going the next day. I don't do a lot of weight training because I already have big muscles from doing nothing. I guess it's hereditary. If I gain anymore muscles I would look like a body builder (uh un).

My problem area is my stomach. It seems all the fat from my unhealthy eating goes there. I suppose it would.

Also fruits does nothing for my sweet tooth (but I do like fruit). Turkey bacon makes me furious. Eating chicken and fish everyday isn't a option. And the healthy smart meals from weight watchers makes my stomach growl.

Anyone have any advice. I really want to lose this weight in my stomach area.

Did you have cheat days in place when you diet so you can have your fried chicken and sweets? What activities do you enjoy? Seems like just doing the treadmill in this case is just begging to fail since you get bored of it. I'd suggest replacing it with something you enjoy doing that doesn't bring you down so much. Swimming, playing a sport, hiking, dancing, etc... it is possible to lose without exercising but it would depend on how much you're eating. Technically you can have anything you want, so as long as you keep it in a decent range of calories. Welcome to the forum.

Thank you for your reply.

I did have cheat days, but I think I cheated more days than eating health. I'm going to start again and will try to run outside instead. Enjoy the scenery. As for food, would drinking protein shakes curve my appetite? I probably could cut back on portion size, if i could find something that will fill me up.

I'd aim for protein smoothies. Shakes lose a lot of their fiber count, fiber is what keeps you feeling fuller for longer periods of time. The more fiber you can get, the better. You can do this, Shakilareed! If I can, anyone can. I believe you'll get on track this time. I hope you do as well.

I think low carb high fat will suit you..why don't you Google banting diet and follow it it's for meat lovers...good luck

Hi Shakila! About the treadmill, l hated it too but now l love it the most as cardio because l play my favorite hip-hop tracks and just dance away. At this point in my life l want to enjoy my work outs and don't worry if other gym members disapprove, you know the, "what is she thinking." I zone out and get the most intense, sweat dripping workout every time because l only focus on feeling the music. And when l play Beyonce, l strut my moves and walk like a super model...haha, lol!!! Hope this helps:)
