Looking to get some encouragements, from like minded friends that can help me achieve my goal of losing 50lbs. I know I can do it. I am currently 230. Now in my late 30's its so hard to drop the lbs without working super hard on it. Pls guys if you have any suggestion i am open to it. I have tried fasting method but I only lasted 3 weeks, although I lose 10 lbs but, when i stopped because it was hard, I gain it back in a week. I am a hot mess. I have tried smoothie diets, pills, workouts you name it. I have thought about plastic surgery on my belly but to I am too scared to try it. Guys am i hopeless?

Hey B Mum, welcome to the forum!

Your goal seems achievable, and while it may take a little longer than it did when you were in your 20s, it can happen. Late 30s is still pretty young. I have recently lost 42 lbs and counting and I'm 66. You will find a lot of people here your age and older with similar stories.

My suggestion is that you choose a diet that you think will work for you, and then keep close track of your food. I post mine here everyday, so do some others, but some don't, doesn't matter so much were you post it as that you track it. Tracking food can really help both keep you accountable and staying on track. People here will chime in with helpful suggestions on diet and exercise, consider them all and then see what works best for you.

I am no fan of longer term fasting or any lose weight quick schemes, they rarely work. You will find some people here (Overlandflyer is one) who have successfully used intermittent, shorter term, fasting, that's different.

I'd try dieting and maybe exercise before surgery, just my opinion.

Best of luck to you!

if you could describe your fasting experience ... assume you mean intermittent fasting? ... i would be curious to try to see how it failed for you. it took me about 2 weeks to establish a good IF schedule. what i did the first day was nothing like what i was doing by day 14.

Hey B Mum

These are 12 tips to help you lose weight in general
  1. Don't skip breakfast. Skipping breakfast won't help you lose weight. ...
  2. Eat regular meals. Eating at regular times during the day helps burn calories at a faster rate. ...
  3. Eat plenty of fruit and veg. ...
  4. Get more active. ...
  5. Drink plenty of water. ...
  6. Eat high-fibre foods. ...
  7. Read food labels. ...
  8. Use a smaller plate
But it is not as easy as it seems, you should follow a diet program that you feel comfortable with. There are many diets like Atkins, Keto Diet, Mediterranean Diet, DASH Diet, the Flexitarian Diet, MIND Diet, etc.
There are a lot of talk about the Keto diet and it is getting positive feedback from those who are applying it.
See article on this link for more details on this diet, a general overview and its benefits.

Hi, best mum & welcome to the forum. After having my 2 kids & back in my 30's I saw a quack doctor & went on a super strict diet with all sorts of quick-fix solutions, (injections of god knows what & shakes ) all of which, looking back, scare me now. I put my body & trust in this man. I lost weight fast, but of course, it was not sustainable or healthy & I regained it over the next few years. It shot my metabolism.
Sensible eating & getting more exercise, but mostly sensible eating will do the trick. Be healthy & be an example to your kids. They will follow everything you do. I feel responsible for passing on my unhealthy obsession with weight and food to our younger son who developed Bulimia as a teen. Putting on weight after having had children is normal. Concentrate on getting good nutrition & a healthy lifestyle & the weight will come off.
Learning to love your body with any of its imperfections would be a real game-changer. When you do that you really want to look after it. Forget surgery, forget quick-fix diets, ignore charlatans trying to sell you quick-fix diets or pills. Be healthy.
Sorry if I seemed to rant. I don't anyone to make the same mistakes I did.

yeah i did the intermittent fasting. but i couldnt continue. i cook every day for my family so it was hard to stay disciplined.

i must admit, being retired and living alone has a few benefits in being able to dictate how the day goes. when i mention to someone that i routinely skip eating at times other people consider meal times, if i told them that i also imposed this on a family, especially kids, i might have child protective services knocking on my door. the sad part is, people are so ingrained to the idea of eating three meals every 6-8 hours during the day, THAT is mistakenly taken as what is normal. i laugh (quietly to myself in the irony) when i hear that kids are not being fed a good breakfast to start the day. what's on the table? mostly sugar and carbs... and everyone wonders why adult onset diabetes is starting to appear in teenagers.

Hey B Mum, consider starting a diary where you can tell us more about yourself and your goals. Its a better place to attract attention, support and advice. You can also read other's diaries to see what we are doing. See the Weight Loss Diary page at https://weight-loss.fitness.com/forums/weight-loss-diary.9/
thank you. i will check out the link.
