You are wise to be working on your problem, I wish I had been so wise at your age.
You are right losing weight will be good for both your health and self esteem. I know from my own experience that as soon as you get started on a good diet self esteem will begin to improve, it won't take long to start feeling better about yourself.
I suggest starting a diary, telling us more about yourself, and recording and posting your food daily. It will allow the smart people here to better support and advise.
