Hi everyone!
My name is Heidi I'm 21 years old from Florida, I used to do triathlons, marathons, and train with an Olympic swim team... And then college hit. I don't have much to lose, I started my journey at 140 lbs at 5'5 and I'm now down to 130 hoping to reach my goal of 115-120. I'm currently running every morning about a mile, eating 1200 calories a day and doing archery in the days between. I worry a lot about my weight because I've had hashimotos and hypothyroid disease since I was in the 5th grade. It's been a depressing weight loss journey for me, I can barely run a couple of miles which used to be effortless for me. Overall my goal is to eat healthier and take good care of myself (I love sweets entirely too much!)!

Hi Heidi!!

Welcome! I'm new to this forum, too! Though I'm quite a few years out of college, I remember putting on my "Freshman 15" after going from 7 years of 6 days a week swim team activity to... well, nothing! It took a while for me to learn how to exercise and eat right once I was out of my home and having to figure it all out for myself. If there is anything I can help you with, let me know!

I'm currently looking to slim down a bit, as well. I don't have tons to lose, but I have definitely gotten a bit soft over the past year and I'd love to regain something of the level of activity/fitness I had a few years ago.

Yesterday was an alright day I woke up and made rice with two dippy eggs on top and a fresh peach on the side. I went for a brisk walk with my family and the dog and got rained on. For lunch I went to Wendy's and ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and chocolate milk (is fast food grilled even good for you?) and then I ate sushi and rice with eggs again for dinner. I don't know why I'm on this rice and eggs kick but it's low calorie and good so I'll keep eating it. I had an orchestra concert then went home and ate some homemade popcorn (went a little over my calories but pop corns healthy right?)...

This morning I woke up and skipped my run, I had to do some last minute studying for my two exams today. I had instant breakfast and then I'm going to eat sundried tomato basil tuna for lunch yum. Tonight I'm celebrating with my fiancée by going to red lobster since our exams are over (and we need to use up a gift card before it expires), I hope I make good choices. Maybe if it doesn't rain I can squeeze a run in, don't you just hate the rainy season?

Today has been an awesome day! I woke up and went for a two mile hike with my mom and my German shepherd Dante and then after that I went for a long hour bike ride , it was so relaxing! For breakfast I had instant breakfast and then I made the most delicious lunch. I cooked some rice and spinach in safflower oil and then topped it off with a dippy egg and half a table spoon of soy sauce, it was to die for! For dessert I had a skinny cow ice cream sandwich. Eating healthy makes me feel so much better.

Hi
I'm not a doctor but 140 lbs at your height is not overweight (depending on your body shape/ bone structure). If you carry more weight on top (apple shape/ ruler shape) with thinner legs and arms then you might need to focus more on body mass and not a number on a scale. Body mass can affect your health and give you hypothyroid disease. Body fat on the waist line, in the upper back and on the lower stomach can mess up your thyroid. I know this because I know some people who get Type 2 diabetes if they gain 20 lbs and they are NOT obese by any means. One man needed to start walking more and eating leaner proteins. Eventually his waist measurement went down and this made his Type 2 Diabetes almost non-existent.

If you have a straight waist line (straight means you are lean but your waist is not V shaped) then you are not really overweight at 140 lbs. You carry extra body mass in your torso only which negatively affects your thyroid. I'm not a doctor, however, I would recommend you see an Ayurvedic herbalist. They know how to treat hypothyroidism without harsh medications. You will easily go back down to 115-120 lbs once you get in touch with a good herbalist.

Hi sandy,
Thanks for the advice! I'm not overweight but I'm just trying to get healthier and more in shape :), id also like to be a bit more in the middle of my BMI, I'm 128 right now so probably just 3 more pounds then I want to focus on building muscle and getting stronger. I suffer from hashimotos and hypothyroid because of genetics, not weight related I've had it since I was 10 and I'm taking medication for it (synthroid). I'm more of a pear shape I've never been an apple, which is good I guess I've always had a flat stomach. I want to learn more about nutrition and healthy eating so I can help out my family and when I have kids eventually be a good example for them!

I see you don't have too much weight to lose, but always deciding to stay in shape and be fit will be a great idea no matter what is going on. You've trained with Olympic teams, I'm sure this will be of no effort to you to meet that goal. Hopefully we can help turn that depressing journey into a journey of happiness. Welcome to the community!

Thank you dude :D . This community is so friendly, I'm so excited to learn some healthy lifestyle tips!

I went on vacation up in the mountains last week did a little hiking and a lot of unhealthy eating, chips and cookies the whole way up. I felt kind of sick the whole trip, which is why I'm trying to eat healthier in the first place; to make me feel better. So today I'm back trying to eat better. I had instant breakfast, sushi for lunch and for dinner my fridge was kind of scarce so I made cheap ramen and tried to liven it up with proteins and some peas.

I've been training for a 5k that I do every year on the Fourth of July it's called the watermelon run. I've done it 6 years in a row now, the all you can eat watermelon at the end always encourages me! I weighted myself today I'm down to 124lbs, my goal is 120 lbs and fit so that it won't hurt my knees so much when I run (any extra weight I can feel in my knees it kills them!). My biggest goal is to train for a marathon one day. I've decided I want to do triathlons again, I love the swimming portion!
