Hello from NH!

I'm from the Squam Lakes region of New Hampshire -- Holderness in particular. I just started an exercise and nutrition routine recently, and so far have lost four pounds. I decided to come here to get advice from others who are either experts at this or are "struggling" like I am.

My stats: I'm 5'8", and started at 270 pds. (now down to 266 pds.). My doctor actually gave me the ultimatum to do something this time around because my cholesterol count was in the 400 range on my last test. I'm 32 -- it's not supposed to be that high. Because of what I do for work, it's hard to eat right -- I'm a reporter for a small paper, and with the fact that I am constantly on the run, I don't always get a chance to eat the most healthy things when I go out.

So I hope to get some good advice, and hopefully I can apply it to my own life. :)

You have a long way to go..........but just remember the journey of a 1000 miles begins with the first step.

My sugestion to you is to find a doctor that works with lifestyle management in order to get the weight off and your health back.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help....I did it and so can you!

Eating right is easy, even with a job where you are on the run alot, as long as you plan ahead. Make a list of the healthy meals you want for the week and go shopping. Make what you need the night before, put it in the fridge and then toss it in a small cooler in the morning.
Healthy low fat portable items include fruits, vegetables, low fat cottage cheese, low fat yogurt, sandwiches like tuna with lowfat mayo, turkey breast, salmon, etc on real whole wheat bread. Obviously avoid the fast food joints like the plague, but if you must hit one, get a grilled chicken/garden salad but just squeeze lemon juice on it instead of going for the creamy ranch dressing. Good luck, you can do it.

Welcome! Your starting weight is exactly the same as mine was. Thus far in 19 days, ive lost 9 pounds. I know you can do it!
