I need to chenge the way i eat but im not exactly how to start. I know i have to cut out sugars and starches because those are my biggest crutch. Im an emotional eater and always seem to find food to ease my stress level.
I was already obese when the doctors put me on some very aggressive bipolar meds. In two years time i went from 300 close to 500 pounds. I took myself off the bipolar meds so im not constantly hungry anymore but at my current weight there isn't much i can do in the way of exercise. Even walking is now a problem. I get the shakes a then dizzy. My body frame simply cant support this much weight.
My family doctor gave me a prescription for some diet pills that should give me some energy to get off the couch and start some kind of exercises.
My biggest concern is the kind of foods i should eat and how many calories i should take in. Since im not sure how many im taking in now it's hard to know what to reduce my calories to.
I hope to speak to many of you. Thanks for any help in advance.

Welcome. Don't worry too much about what you are eating, only the calories. The easiest thing to do is not buy any junk (quick snacks - potato chips, candy, etc) and avoid eating out and you will be well on your way.

For starters, you should start your own journal in the journal section. Post the foods you are eating and the exercise you are doing. Everyone will chime in and help you stay on track and keep you accountable for your exercise and diet.

To find you how many calories you should be eating, just eat what you normally eat for about a week and record everything, including your weight (every morning before eating). Your weight will fluctuate, which is important, because you will want to know how much your body varies day-to-day.

Then, for week 2, reduce your calories by about 500 every day. After a week, see where your weight is at. If you start to lose weight, then maintain that. If not, reduce it some more. I wouldn't go to much more than 1000 calories less than normal unless you were gaining weight.

Thank you. To maintain my weight calorie thingie says im taking in 4200ish calories per day. I found that with no starch sugars thats a lot of food. With 3 meals planned for tomorrow and two snacks i barly hit 1300. So its going to be a work in progress. I wont get a scale for a few weeks(cant just pop into the local megamart for a 500lb scale) and will c if any changes r made. Thanks for the advice.
