Hello Everyone I am new here

Hello Everyone,

New to the site aswell as fitness so bare with me...

My name is Robin and Proper Critic is my horse's name so that is where that comes from. I figured someone would ask so I wanted to go ahead and get that out of the way.

I am 5'5" and I weigh 157 pounds right now YIKES! I can't believe I told everyone that cause I try to keep it a secret. Bodyfat is about 30% right now. So I am not in great shape but I hope to be one day. I started working out a few weeks ago at home on an elliptical machine for about 30 mins a day. I wasn't really watching what I was eating at the time and did not get any real results but my stamina improved.

2 weeks ago to the day I joined a gym for the first time ever. I was pretty intimadated at first but have since gotten over that. I plunged in to the fitness thing and I have been going strong. I figure if I am paying for it I am going to get my money's worth.

I go to the gym every morning Monday - Friday. I start with a good session of streaches takes about 10 mins. Then I hit the weight machines. I alternate days I will do Back, Abs, Legs then the next day I do Arms, Chest, shoulders on the weight machines. I do 3 sets of 12 reps for each excersise and those last few reps are really tuff to do, but I do it. My strength training takes anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes.

Then I do Cardio for anywhere from 45 mins to an hour on different machines. I usally start out with 20 to 30 minutes on a cross trainer elliptical and then do 15 to 30 minutes on either a rowing machine, bike or stairstepper. It keeps me from getting too board with one machine. When I am finished a streach again taking a little longer with my streaches this time 10 to 15 mins.

As a reward I go sit in the dry sauna for about 10 mins then I shower and go to work. I have really been enjoying this routine and I have noticed it makes me feel better about the whole day. I take the weekends off. I might go for a hike at the lake with my boyfriend or something but I don't go to the gym or do anything that feels like excersise.

I have started paying much more attention to my diet now. I don't drink cokes at all anymore I only drink water or sometimes iced tea but mainly water. I make myself eat breakfast. I drink a slimfast in the morning cause it is about the only thing I can choke down and eat a bananna. I also drink a whey protien shake before and after my work out this seems as though it has helped me not be ravaneus after my work out which I was at first. I eat lunch after I leave the gym and it is usally a small turkey sandwhich on wheat bread from my favorite local deli. It has about 500 calories in it. it is very satisfying and also has like 20 grams of protien. If I don't have that I have something simular. I will usally eat some fruit later in the day at work. like and orange or and apple. I don't get to picky about dinner I have a good dinner and just watch my portions of what ever it may be. I am also taking a good vitamin for the first time in my life, and I think that has made a differance.

I have lost about an inch and a half off my waist but that is about it. My weight is still the same and I hope with time it will get better. I believe I can keep this up because I feel so much better. Anyways that is where I am at sorry this was so long but it was a lot of information I guess. I am hoping this website will help keep me motivated and now I have people to talk to about fitness. So my boyfriend will be happy. He gets tired of hearing it, I am sure. Although he still listens. :) I am open to any advice anyone may have and am really enjoying reading everyones post and threads.

Welcome Robin

Welcome aboard Robin. Good for you for joining a gym. maybe just one or two pointers. Are you using just weight machines, if so, you might want to incorporate some free weights into your workout. Do a combination of both. Also even though as you stated you have lost a couple of inches but not lost any weight, this is not unusual. You may have added some muscle and muscle tissue weighs more than fat tissue. Just be consistent with your workouts and maintain a healthy diet and the weight will start to melt away. Best of luck to ya.

The main thing is you are enjoying your "life" change. Keep it up, nothing happens overnight, you can do it. Congrats on taking your first steps to a healthier you.

Welcome aboard. Congrats on taking the first steps toward becoming healthier. The forum will provide you with loads of info and modivation. I agree on adding free weights along with the macines. Free weights rock!! Good Luck on your goals it sounds like you have a great start, and don't pay too much attention to the scales, go by how you feel and look.Scales are deceptive so don't put too much into them.

Thanks

Thanks!
I have not added free weights because I don't know much about them so as of right now I have just stuck to the machines. I plan on adding the free weights soon though. I have been watching what others in good shape are doing with them, but they are a little intimadating to me. Thanks everyone for the positive feedback.

Hey:

Your workouts sound like they are safe and will help you. Your nutrition isn't what it could be, espeically if you are trying to lose weight.
