Another newbie here. Some years ago I lost 110 pounds just eating healthy and exercising. My husband's health started failing in 2016 and my eating became less focused. I regained 50 pounds. He passed last fall and truthfully my diet for several months consisted of PBJ sandwiches and ice cream. Now that I'm having trouble with my knees I know I need to lose at least the 50 pounds I've gained. I know how to do it -- I just need to do it. I go to the YMCA three times a week and I'm in the pool for two hours doing resistance exercises and a water aerobics class, sometimes swimming laps. I'm going back to what I did several years ago -- logging my food and finding things I like to eat to take the place of foods that aren't as good for me. The overall breakdown of my food intake tends to be 50% carbs, 25% fat, 25% protein. I started back on the plan on June 21st and I'm 8 pounds down. Water weight, some of it, but a good start. I need a community I can turn to when things get tough. Tag! You're it!

Welcome Makaren! I think you will find what you are looking for here.

I suggest you take a look at the dairies and then consider starting one yourself. Its a great place to log your food and activity and to find advice and support.

And losing the 8 lbs is a great start, now keep it up.

Hi, Makaren (will we call you Karen?) & welcome to the forum. I'm very sorry to hear about your husband's death. You did well to stop yourself at 50 lbs regained. Well done on taking back control of your health & wellbeing & on already losing 8 of those 50. It sounds to me that you have a sound plan & are doing well. You will find some very good support in the forum. There are a lot of friendly, helpful & supportive people here. Rob's suggestion is a good one. You'll find the diaries at https://weight-loss.fitness.com/forums/weight-loss-diary.9/ Cheers & welcome once again, Cate.

I just got tagged!! :willy_nilly:

Seriously, hello Makaren, I'm really glad to be one of the team cheering you on. And of course I'm sorry you've been through such a hard time - or rather, are still going through, because such a loss doesn't go away.
Brilliant that you're getting right onto the project of losing those extra pounds - and are already seeing results! The swimming I think is especially great - because you simply can't eat a PBJ sandwich or ice-cream while swimming! ;)
