Hello all!

I think a little introduction is in order.

My name is Ken.
I've lived in Tokyo for about 6 years now.
I have a 3 year old son. His mother and I are separated

I'm hoping that having somewhere to record my weight loss and people to offer encouragement and maybe a foot up the ass when I slack off will help me along the path to a lighter, healthier me!

Shortly after coming to Japan I managed to go from 110kg(242pounds) to 79kg(174pounds) (inspired by being mistaken for a sumo wrestler by an actual pro-sumo wrestler) and maintained that weight for about 2 years. However I had an unforeseen and painful event occur in my life which sent me into a very long depression, and as I'm sure many on this board can understand, I sought comfort in food and lots of it. So all my hard work was down the drain and with even more weight added on. I've been out of my funk for a little while now and have decided that it's time to lose weight again, I did it once so I know I can do it again!

Having gone from heavy to light and back again I have a very good idea of what the benefits are to losing weight and I'm hoping I can focus on those benefits to keep me motivated. When I initially lost weight my asthma went from very bad to almost non-existent, I slept better, my hernia didn't bother me, my reflux went away, my energy went through the roof. But now that I'm heavy again all the problems are back, so (WARNING!!!Pun ahead!) I have everything to gain and nothing to lose by dropping some pounds.

Just in the last 2 weeks I've managed to lose 4kg and my first goal weight is only 5 more kg away.

So hopefully I can get some encouragement and in return encourage others!

Hi there Ken!

Yep...the weight sure comes back on fast if we aren't watching! :( What are you doing to lose your weight?

Welcome!!!

Hi Bep,

I'm doing the same thing I did the first time I lost weight, I'm obsessively counting calories and walking as much as possible. In the last 2 weeks I've only taken the train 2 or 3 times, and in Tokyo that's quite an accomplishment!

LOL! I'm "obsessively" counting calories also. :D I find it works great for me. Keep up the good work!

Welcome Ken. I'm sure that by being here will ultimately help you along in achieving your goal weight. There are alot of Buddy systems in place here. I find that buddy motivation is what I so need. Just that extra push from someone who has the same goals as I do, really really kick starts me. But also too, I can push someone into achieving their goal. That makes me feel good when their goal is reached. You can do it. Yes you have everything to gain (Pun intended). You have a healthy and long life to gain.

Have a great day Ken. :D

Hi Ken, welcome. Your drive to loose weight comes thru on your post. I am obsessivly counting Weight Watcher points. And, obsessibly checking this board, lol. What type of exercise are you doing? ( if you have the time) I totally understand about the misunderstanding about a sumo wrestler. My best friend is 7 months pregnant and we were shopping and ran into someone we both had not seen in ages. The woman exclaimed "I bet it's so exciting for you both to be pregnant at the same time!". Thus started my journey. Lots of good people and support here. Stick with us,, we're in the same boat.
