Heath Ledger's Dead

NEW YORK - Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan apartment, naked in bed with sleeping pills nearby, police said. The Australian-born actor was 28. It wasn't immediately clear if Ledger had committed suicide.

He had an appointment for a massage at a residence in the tony neighborhood of SoHo, NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said. A housekeeper who went to let him know the massage therapist had arrived found him dead at 3:26 p.m.

A large crowd of paparazzi and gawkers gathered outside the building on an upscale block. Ledger's body was still inside, and several police officers guarded the door.

The medical examiner's office planned an autopsy Wednesday, spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said.

One story I saw had a package of over the counter sleepng pills - you'd really have to work hard to commit suicide with OTC products - totally possible - but it's also possible that it was just stupidity and not following directions -perhaps thinking an OTC product was safe...

I hope for his family's sake that it wasn't suicide... I would hope that someone that priveledged wouldn't be that unbelievably selfish...

Some tidbits I heard or read.

At the time he was suffering from pneumonia.

His former fiance kicked him out of their Brooklyn home because of a drug problem.

So I'll hold my judgements until they autopsy him to see. He could have very well had some rec drugs and then took a sleeping pill or he could have taken something for his pneumonia and had a drug interaction.

Either way, it pretty much sucks.

I don't know why I am amazed... but the feeding frenzy and the amount of stories that have been circulating... have been amazing... Wait'll the autopsy...

Some have had him depressed -others say he had horrible insomnia - but he wasn't in Mary Kate's apartment :D

I love the internet age - Wikipedia had him dead within 15 minutes of him dying... Information really does travel fast... and the dead celebrities list also had him dead pretty quickly...

I have no idea what he might have been going through personally, but I always liked him as an actor and have been looking forward to Dark Knight! It's going to be strange watching it and knowing he's dead. Sort of like The Crow all over again, but with less 'died on film'. :/

OMG! The first person I thought of when I heard was Brandon Lee and the movie 'The Crow'. It is going to be very strange. It is different when it is an older actor and you watch a new movie, but when they are young it brings up the question of our own mortality.

Well remember, it was in NYC. You know we know everything within a matter of minutes here.

Autop inconclusive, it may take up to 10 days to find out what happened.

I guess they have to do a toxicology report ??

I was talking about this for about 6 hours on another forum last night :(

But i've just been particuarly disgusted by this:

Fred Phelps is one of the biggest morons to ever walk the face of the earth.. I've had him on my dead pool list for years - just hoping beyond hope someone takes him out...

Fred Phelps delightful church group also spends a lot of time picketing and protesting the funerals of people who've been killed in the war in Iraq... real salt of the earth type of guy...

Yeah i've read about that before, i thought his name sounded familiar.

Makes me sad and angry that less than 24 hours after Heath had died, Fred Phelps decided that his funeral should be protested at, very respectful. Same goes for the soldiers. Urgh, it's actually making my blood boil!

Edit: I've just found this quote from Fred Phelps:

Heath Ledger thought it was great fun defying God Almighty and his plain word; to wit: God Hates Fags! & Fag Enablers! Ergo, God hates the sordid tacky, bucket of slime seasoned with vomit known as ‘Brokeback Mountain’ - and He hates all persons having anything whatsoever to do with it.

Heath Ledger is now in Hell, and has begun serving his eternal sentence there - beside which, nothing else about Heath Ledger is relevant or consequential.

I'd pay a year's salary to be locked in a room with Phelps. What the fuck does picketing the dead prove. If you want to make change..... target someone else moron.

WRT Heath, it's always very sad when someone so young passes, no matter what the cause. There's just so much life left on the table wasted.

And my heart goes out to his daughter.

The Phelps guy was going to protest at the funeral of a soldier from a town near mine, who'd been killed in Iraq, last year. The town is literally made up of about 200 people, so they didn't have law enforcement or even enough citizens to keep things under control if it happened.

Luckily, before the day of the funeral, it got around that a group of veterans on horseback and others in a motorcycle group were going to show up to keep the peace. They didn't show.

I'm glad they didn't, but it would've been interesting to see what some of these back-woods Texas guys would've done to him....

I'm guessing the motorcycle group were the above link, the Patriot Guard Riders, that really sounds sweet, motorcycle gangs get such a bad rep sometimes.

I'm pretty sure Heath's funeral will have security. I was talking with someone about why the hell his group haven't had the crap knocked out of them yet.

I know a few people who ride with them - and they do not want to sink to the level of Fred's group... They will show up at a funeral - and basically stand at attention, often times with their backs to the funeral so as to not intrude on the family's private moment, and stand guard.. they are not there to incite trouble but to shield the family from the low life that is Fred Phelps and his ilk..

It' says it quite clearly on the PGR's mission statement

The only prerequisite is Respect.

Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two basic objectives.

1. Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities.

2. Shield the mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors.

We accomplish the latter through strictly legal and non-violent means.

Sorry to jump off the subject here. I just did a search for Fred Phelps on Myspace and somebody has this up -http://www.myspace.com/fredphelpsrotinhell
Warning, it may (will) be offensive to some. I think it's hillarious!
