Heart rate

um, hi.

I just started working out last week, ive only gone a total of 4 times.

I walk (3.2 mph with 3.5 incline) on a tredmil for 1 hour, and then work out one body part every day for another hour.

I plan on going 6 days a week.

theres the basics, but when I get on the tred mil, I check my heart rate. about 1 minute after I get on (it takes about a min to get my heart rate) its at like 166!! and about 50 mins im its at 189! do I have some kind of heart problem or something? im 18, 223 pounds.

is this normal for someone whos just starting? or should I see a doctor?

dont ask us...see a doctor anyway!!

thy are the only people qualified to tell you, and will need to examine you first.

(but if u want my opinion, it sounds quite high for what you are doing, but not so high it will cause a heart problem)

I have this similar problem....constantly in the 160-190 range...depending on how hard i run. when doing the sub 8min mile, i'm around 190....and maintaining a 9min mile, i'm at 160-170

I asked my doctor this, and he said its ok for me....but i'd suggest u check with your doctor.

i think is pretty normal for someone just starting out. but dbl check with a doc, are you taking any kind of supps? fat burners can have a lot of caffine in them and that maybe part of the problem.

I dont take any supps and im cutting down on soda.. thats the only 'drug' I use.

I dont know what my resting heart rate is, I cant take it at home. the best I can do is take it right when I get to the gym, and its about 160~

the problem is, im not running (if I were to go any slower I would be forcing myself to walk slower than I would ever normally walk..) im going 3.2 miles per hour..

take ur resting rate first thing in the morning. Get a clock/watch with seconds and for 10 secs count how many beats you feel in your wrist. Put ur index and middle finger on ur wrist til u feel the pulse (somewhere at the base of ur thumb is best on me) multiply the number of beats in 10 secs by 6 and it gives you a rough reading of your heartrate. You must do this first thing in the morn. Before you get outa bed. get the stuff organised nite before!
a normal pulse is considered around the 72 bpm mark. mostly the fitter/older you are the lower it gets.

Gym's and doctors can cause 'white coat syndrome' meaning ur pulse is way faster because ur worried/nervous....

If your HR is 160 when you get to the gym, I would assume your RHR is quite high, unless I am missing something and you are jogging to the gym and then taking your HR when you get there? As sindydoll says, take it first thing in the am and see....and see your doctor...you may have tachycardia (abnormally fast heart rate), which is sometimes treated using medications...do you ever feel faint, dizzy or feel any pounding in your chest when you are not doing anything? Those might be some indications of tachycardia...again, I can't impress this enough: see your doctor!
