Sport Healthy Diet Options on a budget?

Sport Fitness
I am a college student, and I'm broke, so I don't really have that much of a choice when it comes to eating extremely healthy. I try to be as healthy as possible, but sometimes the 80/20 ground beef and hamburger helper is all I can afford.

I would like to make this a thread for dieters who are on budget restrictions to share their recipes or grocery lists.

I'll Start: One thing I try to do when cutting carbs is to buy a bag or 2 of frozen chicken breasts, the cheapest ones, and grill them all up at the same time. This way, I will have about 10 cooked breasts in the refrigerator so I can grab one for lunch or an afternoon snack.

Tuna, fast food chicken burritos (chicken only), eggs.

home made chicken and vegie soup.
2 chicken breats, some potatos, onion, carotts and leek.........can cook up a huge pot for about £3 and you will have enough for a couple of days........loads of good stuff in there and its dam tasty!

Healthy food is pretty cheap, but you need to learn to cook.

Like Joe said, produce is cheap, but you can also buy lean meat when it is on sale. (shop rite chicked breast on sale this week for $1.49 per lb) Dried Beans are dirt cheap, oatmeal by the tube, cheap!

hamburger helper is all I can afford.
I understand it is quick and easy, but think about it like this. Hamberger Helper is about $3-4 a box, maybe you can get 4 meals out of it. Its not that healthy for you either. On the other hand, you can buy a box of whole wheat pasta for $1.50, some onions, garlic and peppers, (cheap and whatever else you like in it) a can of tomatoes for the same price and get three times more meals out of it for the same price.

Hey Quinnch, I totally agree that it can get expensive, but it all depends what you purchase and how long it will last you. Buy things that you can reuse for other recipes. Here’s an easy turkey pita recipe that you might like. You can use pita bread for so many things, you can even cut up the chicken you have and put it in the pita. Let me know what you think. Hope this helps :)

or buy a turkey this week (read cheap, cheap, cheap), roast it, make all the turkey pita sandwiches you would like.

One more suggestion, find the closest farmers market, they usually sell produce at half the price of the supermarket, plus they carry eggs and milk alot cheaper than at your local supermarket.
