Sport Healthy Cereal in the UK

Sport Fitness
I have heard that cereal like kelloggs rice krispies are not good for you. I just wanted to know what cereal is good for you that you can buy in the UK

Thanks

Healthy cereal = Oxymoron.

Eggs and oatmeal FTW.

if i'm going to eat cereal, i usually have Kashi cereal. we have it here in the U.S., not sure if they have it in the U.K. i don't eat cereal too often, but if i do, i think Kashi is the best choice.

I usually have a mix, you can buy it all in any supermarket.

Crunchy oat cereal with fruits, fru bran, bran flakes, all-bran and raisins scattered on top.

Alternately, greek yogurt with fru bran and bran flakes thrown in.

Depends on what diet you are on really :)

Oatmeal porridge or other whole grain hot cereal would be the first choice.

Of dry cereals, those where all of the grains are whole grains and with no added sugar or very little (less than 10% of total carbohydrates). In the US, such cereals are quite rare, and mostly old classics (e.g. shredded wheat (not frosted), Cheerios (original type) and copies), since even adults in the US seem to have a sweet tooth (most "new" cereals marketed to adults have about 30% of their carbohydrates as sugar -- yes, even "healthy" cereals like Kashi cereals are often loaded with sugar). No idea if finding dry cereals not loaded with sugar is easy in the UK.

kashi cereals are usually sweetened with evaporated cane juice and honey, not pure sugar.

it's all preference and i choose to eat kashi over any other cereal b/c i feel it is a better choice than a cereal that uses pure sugar to sweeten it.

plus they are high in fiber.

oats are a good choice too, but if i were having it i would sweeten it a bit with some fruit and honey.

Evaporated cane juice is just a slightly less processed form of sugar from sugar cane; it may have minor amounts of vitamins and minerals, but is basically equivalent to sugar in a nutrition sense. Honey is higher in fructose and lower in glucose than cane sugar is; indeed, the ratio of fructose to glucose for honey is similar to that of a common type of high fructose corn syrup.

From a nutrition standpoint, it is better for the cereal to not be sweetened with any type of sugar, juice, syrup, or honey. Add whole fresh or frozen fruit if you want it sweetened more than adding milk sweetens it.

i agree, but i don't eat cereal on a regular basis. thanks for the info. good to know. i only eat it like maybe once a month, if that. :D

so the person requesting a healthy cereal to eat on a regular basis should probably be choosing something else to eat for breakfast.

I will sometimes have a bell pepper, but I can't eat fruit. It usually tears my stomach up (allergies). :(

An alvacado sounds good, but man, that must be filling.....lol :)

you can't eat fruit? you poor thing. i love fruit, especially apples, bananas, and strawberries.

i was having egg whites for breakfast for a while, but got sick of them real quick. it's hard getting them down real early in the morning.

Isn't that the point. :)

I often add salsa and hot sauce to that as well. If I am out of avocados I will use peppers as well. Good stuff.

lol, yeah it is, but that would make me

*love* alvocados, but are hard my my system. I can only eat it in small amounts cause it makes me feel full...too full. I will sometimes eat my eggs or bell pepper stuffed with tuna or chicken. I guess I just meant that it is a really rich food, yummy good, but rich :D
