Do you find that your girlfriend (if you have one) has much effect on the amount of training you are 'able' to do (either by your own choice or your girlfriend's demands)?

I don't know about girlfriends, but my wife saved me from being an immature, party animal, who negated most of his hard earned progress in the gym between ages 18-23 by drinking too much most nights; she was the best thing that ever happened to me. Although she is not much for exercise, once she realized it's benefits for me (both physical and psychological) she has been pretty supportive of my taking tme to go to the gym through raising 3 kids for the last 32 years. The right woman can be a blessing in every way.

I don't have a girlfriend, nor do i plan on having one for a while. I'm trying to stay single, party it up, and travel for the next 10 years til i'm 30 than maybe finding one....but IF i did have one I would find myself a girl who likes to hit the gym as well, so she knows where I'm coming from. In case she didn't, I think a good girlfriend wouldnt mind a person hitting the gym for an hour a day because thats the body they are all up on all the time.

be careful danny. avoiding women in your 20s might mean you don't know how to relate to women in your 30's. next thing you know you're 50, single, with 13 cats (or dogs).

I voted No, though I am married. But back when I was just dating my now-wife, we used the gym as place to go together.

A girlfriend will only stand in your way of gym time if you let her. And she'll only do it if she's selfish and self-centered.

After all, gym time should be an hour a day. If she can't tolerate that, to hell with her.

Same for boyfriends...if they don't want their woman staying trim and extra sexy, dump em.

well malkore

I relate to women until I hit it, than i quit it no strings attached lol and move on haha :cheeky:

Well don't have a girlfriend, so nothing is preventing me from not going. Although I sort of wish I did have a girlfriend, but eh, what can you do about.

Hahah, but I have 3 animals now. A fish, hamster, and a dog, and I'm only 26. So ten more to go!

lmfao....surely all partners can be supportive?

If the clock is ticking by in the evenings when I know I'm due to train, my wife usually gives me a 'gentle' reminder:)

I think the best thing about being a 'lone wolf' is that you can train whenever you want, and as hard as you want because you don't need to save any energy to deal with people. And your diet is not influenced by other people either.

I like being able to spend 3-4 hours a day training, spreading it out over the day according it my plans and nobody else's.

I am sure there are women out there who would put up with their boyfriend telling them to 'get ****ed' when it was his time to do his thing, but they must be few and far between, and ugly people like me have zero chance of ever finding them.

I don't think your ugly :yelrotflmao:

i dont think a gf can be a prob, i havent got 1 @ the mo, but you can always reason with her that if she wants you to keep a 'mean, lean' look then you have to go to the gym.+ if she is stopping you then is she such a good gf in the first place?

Just about any kind of social interaction is detrimental to training, so is going to work and having a beer. It's all about balance people and a wife/GF offers something 'Inflatable Annie' just can't replicate so until she can I'll stick to having a happy family life and fitting training in around that rather than trying to fit my family around training

Exactly.

My GF complains sometimes, but she know's she'l never stop me and she doesn't want to stop me.

The only thing i think my gf can **** me up with sometimes is diet. If she's getting a nice dirty takeaway or something, it's sometimes hard to resist.

Who ever voted yes needs to have a wake-up call.

I'm sorry, not trying to be an ass, but your health is directly related to you being able to taking care of her.

If she finds a way to stop you from doing this you are either undisciplined or lazy.

Stopping or cutting back on working out cannot possibly be related to you having a girlfriend. It's you giving yourself excuses or being lazy.

Label me an ass, I don't care, that's how I think.

Well I think a girl can have a profound effect on a guy's self esteem and worth. So it'll be yes for many because once they found someone, nothing else really matters. Then when she leaves, he'll grow a beard, get fat, then in about three years or depending on how bad it was, he'll come out, work out again, and hang out at the gym all day talking about, "Women! Who needs em!" Then when the next girl accepts him, he'll be like, "No more guys! I'm going home to my wife." Then he'll be at home enjoying her cooking, having blast, then hopefully no more break ups.

I voted yes but I think my comments explained my view more clearly. Having commitments to people will always have some level of detrimental effect on training but then what's the use in living without those relationships?

Everytime I go out for a meal with my wife I end up breaking from my usual nutrition. I then break from training properly when I go stay with her family or go on holiday. I would probably go to the gym in the evening instead of my lunch break if she weren't there.

Then if you get to the deeper stuff, relationships lower a man's testosterone production and having kids lowers it a whole lot more. And low T levels are not a good thing for muscle building; it's great for keeping us faithful but not for getting our asses out of bed at 5am to get to the weight room.

So yeah, I'd say a girlfriend/wife is detrimental to training but is it worth staying single just to lift a few extra lbs?

You think about things too much!

Generally whenever I break up with someone the first thing I do is assess how likely a break up shag will be, then plan a route to getting dates with any of her fit friends, or if ends badly, how I can get her sister bent over the sofa.

Then it's off to Spain with a friend to drink, smoke and get laid until any memory that I once had feelings has died :D

I man should only be depressed for a week at tops, and that's if he was at least engaged to the woman, and maybe 2 weeks if she took the dog with her!

When you're 26, single, and horny and hadn't had any in a while, you become an ass.
