Have a limitation on working out. Need Input

I am 46 Year old. I was up to 308 that past Jan and though a little walking and diet, I am around 195. Good start but I fear that I am not going to get very far. I am also very worried about being very flabby.
About 15 year ago I got a bone disease in both of my hips. It has left me with pain and limited movement in my hips. Then on top of it, I gained a bunch of weight. I cannot run, jog or even walk very long and I do not have access to a pool. I have been doing some weight lifting and a few exercises. But right now my belly gets in the way of doing many, like sit ups. I have tried riding a bike a few years ago. I think that this would work well for me. So I am going to buy a new bike next week. Will this be a good alternative to Running, Jogging and walking?
Thanks
Matt

A bike is a very good alternative but make sure it is fitted to you correctly otherwise it may pose a problem to your hips. situps also may not be such a good idea unless you have clearance from your doc, as full situps work the hip flexor muscles far more than the abs.

Were you given rehab exercises to help your hips ? if so have you been doing them ?

Thanks you for that input. I have been shopping around for a bike. I use to ride many years ago and know what to look for. I am really looking forward to getting into doing that. Only bad thing is that in about a month or two, we are going to start getting really hot out here in Phoenix. So I hope to be able to get my bike soon so that I can get into the swing of things by the time the heat comes.
I also was doing some research and found that I have a very good exercise machine in my living room. My daughter's drum set. I can do ok on drum as I use to play bass and guitar in bands back in the 80s. Then my daughter took up drums, so we have made our living room into a music room. I have started playing for what turns into about 45 minutes a day. From what I read playing drums work you out much like swimming does. Worked every muscle. I tell you I can feel it. Plus it is quite allot of fun and the time just passes.
