has my ED messed up my metab? I can't lose and I gain very easily!

Hey,
I'm very frustrated. I used to be EDNOS, and now i'm on the healthy track.
I'm 5ft4.5 and 157lbs. I've managed to lose 2.2lbs after the first week.
This is one exercise session, I do it 5 times a week: (i was fit to begin with)
2 hours light cardio(aerobics), 1 hour yoga/pilates and a 2.5-6.5mile run
I eat about 1200-1400cals a day.

prior to this i raised my metab back to 2000cal a day from my previously 500-800cal disordered metab. so i could eat 2000cal without gaining.
so over the first week and a half i lose 2.2lbs, then last night I had a bigger dinner than usual, but total day's cals were 1615cal.
this morning i'd gained everything back!

this happens quite often and i need a week to get my weight back down to pre-gain. why does this happen. i waited aobut 4 hours after dinner before sleeping, so is it food weight, or is my metab just shot through. its very frustrating, i can't lose!

i would love any advice. thank you very mucch.

I think you might be expecting too much, too fast. 2.2 lbs of weight loss in a week is extremely good. It's actually a little high for you, since a good rate of loss is normally about 1% of your bodyweight ... so you should expect to healthily and safely lose about 1.5 lbs a week on average.

Next, a bigger dinner than usual is not going to put 2lbs of fat back on your body. :) It just isn't mathematically possible. Unless you ate a humongous dinner with more than 7000 calories in it.

However, I also, honestly, think your exercise is excessive. 3 hours of exercise PLUS a 3-6 mile run every day? Wow. That's just ... wow. With that much exercise, I suspect that 1400 calories of food is not NEARLY enough for you. It's possible that you're actually putting yourself in such a calorie deficit by so much working out that you're stalling your metabolism again. Any one of those three things each day would be more than enough: an hour of cardio (or even better, 30 mins of HIIT cardio), or a 1 hour pilates class, or a good run ... but not all three piled on top of each other. Also, if it were me, I'd ditch some of the cardio/aerobics for some weight lifting and strength building, which will help maintain lean muscle while you lose weight.

Finally, it would probably help to know WHAT you're eating as well. It's not enough to just eat a certain number of calories, but you need to make sure they're healthy calories. You need to be sure to get lots of lean protein, complex carbs, veggies and fruits.

thanks so much for replying! :) i find that the 2 hours of cardio aren't tiring at all because of my fitness level, which is why i'm able to run after that. its feels like walking in the park, then going for a run :) i will probably cut down on my exercise because my old knee injuries are starting to act up. weight training huh, i'll take a leaf from your book then!
and also because of my uh...ED mentality, it's psychologically impossible for me to eat most fattening foods, so i daresay my diet is very clean, i'm asian, so its all the traditional chinese food (not the restaurant kind!). i gained weight because my lousy metab couldn't process eating "normally" and i had bingeing episodes. i'll try eating more protein and hopefully unstall the metab.

I thought ED was a term created by Pfizer to mean Erectile Dysfunction and help promote Viagra? :smilielol5:
Sorry, I couldn't help it. Seriously though, what does EDNOS stand for?

HAHAHA that totally cracked me up.
ED = eating disorder
EDNOS = eating disorder not otherwise specified; its like neither anorexia nor bulimia, but general disordered eating that exhibits behaviour from both ana or mia, even COE.
 
So how long in total have you been trying to lose weight, just one week? 2.2 lbs in one week is excellent. I really hope "The Big Loser" hasn't led people to believe 2.2 lbs in one week is not awesome because it is. Give yourself some more time, I think a few more weeks of 2 lbs per week will definitely have you smiling and realizing just how quickly you can achieve your goals. Don't expect 2 lbs every week or you will be disappointed and maybe give up. Just keep eating healthy and exercising just like you are. I doubt your metabolism is messed up.
 
Just some helpful pointers...

If you are able to exercise 3 hours PLUS the run you should look to step up the intensity. I do about 2 to 2.5 hours a day and I am trainwrecked afterwards, and I consume about 2500 calories.

I do morning exercises (which are usually the easy ones) like a decent run a few times a week, some ultimate football, or muscle failure. The evening is all about the P90X which is insanely intense for me... and I consider myself to be overweight but in decent shape (6:30 mile run time, and I can do 60 pushups, 60 situps, can kick off a 5x5 set of dips and machine-assisted pullups).

I just started the P90X this week, but I'm calling it a "mulligan" or trial/conditioning period since I was sick the first 2 days of the program. Lemme tell ya, this guy will work your butt off. I only did 1 upper body dvd, 1 lower body dvd, and the kenpo... and I am SORE. I exercise 5 days a week at a fairly decent tick but this stuff is on another level. The yoga is amazing.

Decrease your workout time, increase your intensity. You'll see better results much faster this way, and your joints will thank you. Instead of running a billion miles, do interval training for 1 or 2. Instead of 2 hours of light aerobics (You may as well sit down on a stationary bike and pedal while reading a book), do 5 minutes of burpees, 20 minutes of plyometrics, and a rotating routine of anaerobic lifting that should take you 20 minutes, max, especially if you're focusing in on one muscle group.

Hope this helps. Also, eat more.
