I'm thinking about going on the grapefruit juice diet where you drink 8 oz of GF juice at each meal, 2 eggs and 2 slices of bacon for breakfast, any meat(any amount) and a salad for lunch and dinner~ no potatoes or onions or anything white as far as I can tell...supposedly you are suppose to lost 52 lbs in 2 1/2 months....if you stick strictly to it...Does anyone know anything about it??? or tried it?

Sounds like the Atkins Diet....and I'm not sure about 52lbs in 2 1/2 months.....sounds like a whole lot of weight.....The amount you can lose also probably depends on your starting weight, the higher you are the more you lose...

But as far the diet.....I do believe that it works, because other than the Grapefruit juice you aren't intaking sugars and eating no carbs and protein will throw your body into a state of Ketosis, which will make you loose weight!

Good Luck Hun! :seeya:

That's the link to the site you use which was somehow the top of the list in the google search.

Personally, I think it's pipe dreaming (52lbs in 2.5 months being the main reason). I think it's one of those "too good to be true" diets.
I wouldn't try it myself.

thanks alot for your input...I'm still not sure if I'm gonna try it or not...I have started drinking GF juice every meal, but just don't know if I can handle 14 salads in a week...lol

What are your current stats and why are you looking at fad diets?

Spend some time reading the stickied threads in this forum - Fad diets do not work long t erm -what works is a lifestyle change...

Like mal said. Fad diet. This is the one that made the rounds under "The Mayo Clinic Diet" said to have been developed as a fast weight loss plan for their patients awaiting surgery. It actually never had anything to do with The Mayo Clinic. The Mayo Clinic does have an endorsed weight loss program however,

From their newsletter:
"The program stresses healthy food choices from a variety of food groups, with emphasis on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean sources of protein and heart-healthy unsaturated fats. The plan is combined with enjoyable physical activity."

Maybe you should try that one. I believe you will have better, longer lasting results.

Hi friends, I am only 23 years old and my doctor thinks that I might have high blood pressure. He didn't prescribe me any medicine for it but he wants me to check my blood pressure once a week. I’m really worried now since he didn't prescribe me any medicine for it. My father also has blood pressure. So should I be really worried?

I have tried this diet numerous times. Everytime I did it, when it came time for me to break from the diet and eat "normal" food, I got very sick to my stomach. I did lose weight, though. Also, a friend of mine followed this diet religiously. She lost a lot of weight, but was moody and irritable because of having no carbs and no energy. If you can handle having the same foods everyday and beat the cravings, more power to ya.

Your doctor THINKS you have high blood pressure - Is your doctor an idiot? you either have a high blood pressure reading or you don't - and if you do - then they will generally have you go back in two weeks or so for another reading. You will rarely get medicine prescribed immediately and you'd be wrong to want medication for it before trying to correct it thru lifestyle changes.. you do not want to be on medication for the rest of your life..

HBP can be heriditary -but it can also be controlled to some degree thru diet and exercise and watching sodium intake -if it's really bad - the doctor will generally prescribe the DASH diet (google it - it's a very low sodium, low fat diet)

Should you be worried? no - you should be concenred and be proactive and do somehting about it rather than sitting and waiting.

my BP used to be around 140/90 - sometimes higher depending on how stressed out i was at work and stuff -now - thru diet and exercise it's a steady 110/70... with a strong family history of high blood pressure..

what we should look in a diet is not just how much we gonna lose weight but how safely are we losing weight...... the grapefruit juice diet has a lot of skeptics!

grapefruit juice fast is effective, and I thought it couldn’t hurt to try. It’s summertime over here which makes it easier It is a terrible diet - very low in calories, nutrient deficient
