First anniversary gift traditionally is paper and the modern gift is clocks... so i'll go with modern and hope you have lots of time to spend with your lovely mrs... :D

She was just being her usual frank self. Remember, typed posts don't have tone of voice, no mater how it sounds in your head! :p I think she meant "read up" as in read a bit further up in the thread :)
