Had an ineffective workout today

So I am really just starting to go to the gym so sorry if my question is stupid. But I went today and it just felt like I had no energy and like the workout had no results.

Normally when I go I feel pretty good during the exercise and things flow smoothly. Today for some reason when I was doing bench presses and a few other upper body workouts I just felt like my arms were tired and had no energy. It also felt like they were just going to give out and that they weren't getting a real workout at all. Sometimes the form even felt awkward even though I've never felt that way before. Does anyone know any reasons why that might happen?

It could be that maybe your diet that day wasn't quite what it needed to be, maybe you didn't sleep too well last night, maybe stress was just getting to you, or maybe you're working out too soon after your last workout. While injury is always a possibility, it's unlikely if you aren't experiencing any pain, but do keep an eye on it.

We all have days where it seems that our bodies just aren't in it 100%, but it's no reason to feel disheartened. We're all human, and bad days sometimes happen =)

Just keep a positive attitude and be ready to hit it hard next time!

If you give us some info on your workout and diet we may be able to give you more feedback.

Whats your split like??? How many hours and what do you eat before a workout??? etc.

Did you drink enough water before you went? How about eat something? That effects my workouts greatly. Some days you just show up and build the habit. That da is gone so move forward and make the next workout your very best. You can do it!

Could also be you picked up some bug. But it probably is down to diet. Either not enough or eating something too close to your workout, that can mess you up. As the the others said though, don't fret, use it as motivation to make up for it next time.

Your question isn't stupid, rather its an intelligent question, and one you should be concerned with when training. :)

What is your carbohydrate consumption like?

Do you have a ballpark idea on how many calories you have been eating?

What is the frequency, volume, and length, of your training?

Best wishes,

I've had the very same problem and I was wondering if anybody can give me some advice. I started working out, always stayed in shape until I just let myself go last year, and i work out 5 days with split workout plans. On the first day of the week I shocked my body and rested for the rest of the week. I work in the morning @7am, so not a whole lot of time for breakfast, but i do eat a beagle w/cream cheese and a protein shake, snack (nuts, fruits, or protein bar), lunch (lean cusine made up of mostly chicken or fish with pasta with fruits or nuts), snack, protein shake 1 hr before workouts, workout over 1hr, dinner (fish, chicken, brown rice and fruits), protein shake, then sleep around 11pm.

The other day my upper body and my arm felt like noodles, no energy, didn't feel like i worked anything at all. Felt like my arms were ready to give in after just 4 reps. Plus i kept getting a weird movment next to my elbow (not clicking, more like moving up and down along as I move my arms, it feels uncomfortable). I'm just beginning to work out so i'm not using heavy weight, i'm letting my body adapt first and i drink alot of water. Is this going to be a one time thing or am i not getting enough sleep?

Are you getting enough nutrients and vitamins too? Drink lots of water as well. That's good for the body
