Gym referral needed

I think I've outgrown my gym but I can't seem to find any better that are close to me. I currently use a Fitness First in the West End but some things about it are really getting on my nerves. The last straw today was noticing a guy just staring at me getting changed (not the first time); I don't care if my gym is full of gay men so long as they don't just stare at people in the changing room, it's a bit disrespectful and typical of the gym as a whole, people are there to either look or be seen but not lift.

What I'm looking for is a place with weights, benches, squat racks and not much else; where people go because they want to get stronger. I'm fed up of gym bunnies hogging everything for hours with their 'no weight, high reps' workout (no, that wasn't a typo) so can anyone help me out here?

Maybe anyone here who likes the gym they're at can post the details so others can benefit. Regardless of what country you're in if you like your gym for whatever reason and want to spread the word then post the details and let people know where the good places are :)

It's hard to say. I've belonged to a few chains and each had branches I liked and branches I hated. I'm at Gold's right now. I have one across the street from my house that I never go to. It got a thousand machines and like a 10x10 area for free weights.

However, the one I do go to I love. The second floor is ONLY dedicated to free weights, squat and power racks, and cable, deadlift and dip stations. The bottom floor is all machines, cardio and abs. Upstairs it's great, though. Just bars and weights everywhere.

Haha no weight high reps is pretty funny.

My local college has a gym. They were incredibly smart when designing the place. On the second floor is the big wide open room full of cardio machines, bikes, treadmills, elipticals, you name it! Also it had all the weight machines no one needs like leg extension, curl, leg curl, shoulder press.

Then, on the first floor, in a secluded room with very small glass windows, there is only free weights and cable amchiens for rows. 3 squat racks, a smith bench, 4 incline benches, 4 decline benches, 6 normal benches. Thousands of pounds of weights. Dumbbells from 5-100+. The gym affectively seperates people that work out and people that bull **** around.

So no one here is from London and uses a decent gym rather than a chain? A lack of access to a decent weight area is annoying me

Where do you live? I think I'd enrol in this place just to use the gym!
