Gym accidents

List some weight training accidents that have happened to or you've witnessed happening to someone else

I haven't had an accident thank god, tho 2 days ago when I was bench pressing, I nearly failed at the last rep, I thought I was screwed, when the barbell just would go up anymore.. I was stuck at halfway throughout the movement, somehow I gave it all I had, and did some weird leg/back movement to generate some momentum to help me get the weight back up :D

LOL iv done exactly the same when iv trained on my own.....scarrrrry sh1t isnt it!

My mate was once doing incline bench on the smith machine and couldnt get the last rep out and his head was stuck between the bar and the bench lol. Now that was funny. Not really an accident tho..

I dropped a cast iron weight on my head while doing what I term "Plate Weight Cardio" before.

(Okay, Regs, no funny business :) )

Other than that, it has been ROCKEN smooth.

Best regards,

Chillen

Yeah, it's a really intense feeling that you get while you're struggling to get the bar up, although the whole things lasts just a few second it seems like much longer :D.

I don't see how anyone can have an accident on the while bench pressing on the smith machine, unless somehow the bar slips from hands, other than that, even if you cannot get the bar up, you can just lock the bar wherever you're stuck at

Just yesterday I was doing some treadmill running I was checking out a new piece of equipment that I'd never seen before, called a 'trebi-stretch' or something and as I ran I hit the side of the treadmill and stumbled...badly, made a load of noise, but was able to pull myself up...I went bright(er) red..and got a few laughs at my expense.

if I cant make a rep I'll usually find a way to take it off, for example on the bench I'll drop the bar bell to my chest and just roll it off!

Just this Monday night, I was at Sears picking up a battery and my wife decides she wants to check out the outdoor furniture which just happens to be next to the exercise equipment. This dude, probably 55 years old, 60 lbs overweight wearing a long leather coat and sandals decides he wants to try out a treadmill. He steps on, turns on the machine which is going at a slow walk. He smiles proudly to his missus. His wife decides to play with a few buttons and all of a sudden the thing is flying at the speed of a belt sander. Sure enough he catches the end of one of his flip flops and goes shooting off the back, slides across the aisle and crashes into a lawn tractor.

My wife is like "Honey, aren't you going to help that man?" and I was like "Yes, once I stop laughing". :yelrotflmao:

Sandals on a treadmill? Future Darwin Award winner for sure.

I've missed my last rep like that more times than I can count. You just roll it down to your waist and stand up with it. It's not fun, but not fatal either if you know what to do.

nothing where I could get hurt but last week I was doing squats and ripped the ass right out of my shorts. LOL

good thing I work out at home.

It has never happened to me, although it was a close call few days ago, and I'm inexperienced in those situations. But if it happens, I'll make sure I don't panic, I'll just hold the bar as tight as possible, dump the weights on one side then on the other side, so I'd be left with an empty bar on my hands.
Seems fairly safe if you don't let go of the bar

I posted this one a while ago... but one day I was jump roping and punched myself in the face. I didn't look around and just pretending nothing happened.

As for others, once I remember this guy dropped a barbell on his face doing bench presses. He was bleeding out of the nose.

LOL, I have done that before too, many times.

I wouldnt have this problem, if I could get my sons to train with me more often :(.

And, yes, rolling it down the core to the point of the hips, sitting up, then grabbing the bar with both hands, then standing up while lifting the bar and setting it back down on the bench seat, works out okay.

This one guy.....Jens (Yens)...Mr.Powerful, blah blah blah...squated some heavy weight and within a minute there was a dark brown mark and wetness on his ass. He walked around like that for about 3 minutes until someone told him. Ultimate embarrassment!

Wrapped a towel around his waist, changed in the locker room, went home...wasn't seen for about 2 weeks. He's a nice guy, nobody talks about it.....excuse the ulitmate pun: ^^^^ happens! or in this case, happened. :D

Those bench press accidents don't look funny at all. I would probably carry the person to the emergency room asap. Dropping that much weight like that would probably cause a hemorrhage of some sort or probably blood in the lungs or broken ribs.
