Great Arm Definition

Hey All,

I am just starting to use weights again after a chronic illness and can only use my Zumba toning sticks as weights which are 0.49kg. I am hoping to get great arms in a short amount of time of three weeks. I am female and currently I have built up to doing 10 reps of :

Hammer Curls
Side Lateral Raises
Single Arm Front Lifts
Standing bent over rows
Kneeling one arm rows
Overhead extensions
Standing kickbacks
Forward Curls

I do this nearly every day as well as 10 pushups on my knees and 10 tricep dips on a chair.
I just want to know if this is too much every day as I dont want to get big arms, but lean toned arms. Thank you all for your help. xx

You won't have to worry about your arms getting big from such a small amount of weight. When you say that you can only use these weights, does that mean that this is all you have available, or that this is all that you can lift right now?

Thank you for replying to my message, I am just starting to build myself up again after chronic illness of eleven years, and can only lift this weight as I am still quite weak.

Well congrats on starting to build your strength back up again. Wether or not you're doing "too much" is relative to how fatigued your muscles are when you finish working out. So, a couple of questions that I would ask you are: How do you feel after you've finished each exercise? And, "How do you feel after the whole workout?"

If you are currently sore or overly fatigued after your workouts, then you might want to consider starting with doing your exercises every other day, or splitting the exercise routine in half and doing half one day, half the next, until it starts to feel easier.

My muscles are a bit tired the next day but I am pushing myself as I want to get great arms in a short amount of time, thats why i am doing them everyday as i thought i would get a better result, but im not sure if that is how it works. I think i need to rest in between days to give my muscles a rest, could you please advise, thank you so much for your help, much appreciated.

Rest and recovery are actually very imortant in strength and muscle building. So if you want to do exercises every day, just try not to do the same exercises/muscle groups 2 days in a row. Good luck! Let us know how things progress!
