Sport Gotta ask....... Alcohol

Sport Fitness
I am 21 and I like to drink. I know I need to stay away from beer, but how does a screwdriver or some drink like that fair? I would assume it has fewer carbs so in the long run wouldnt it be better? I know I shouldnt drink at all, but I only drink 2 nights a week which is Fri. & Sat. Well, what do you think?

I believe alcohol is 7 grams per ounce. And yes, all calories count (including alcohol).

A couple of drinks won't hurt just include it in your calorie intake for that day. Drinks with any fruit juice in it will have lots of carbs.

Evo, there's 7calories per gram and 1 ounce has about 28grams. I'm not sure if thats regular 100proof liquor or near pure.

Bottomline; Most mixed drinks have just has many calories has beer.

keep the drinks to a minimum, they are high calories. remember that lot's of overweight people "only drink on fridays and saturdays"..

There are plenty of ways to cut the calories a bit, beer definitely you have to stay away from, anything with fruit juice or regular sodas have plenty of sugar calories too.

You can go with things like Rum & Diet Cola, or Gin & Tonic, my friend who is a doctor told me that Gin & Tonic has the least calories of any going.

I like to drink on the weekend too, I had to quit though since cigarettes started appearing in my hand after 3 or 4 drinks and those things are just plain bad news.

A few drinks here and there aren't going to kill you (and will probably have some positive health benefits). Too much drinking (particularly beer) is going to have an effect (this should seem obvious). There are plenty of websites that detail the caloric content of various alcohol so I won't bother quoting any of that.

In college I was a pretty heavy drinker (and by many standards I'm still a heavy drinker) and believe me, drinking heinous amounts of beer regularly is going to shoot your metabolism right in the head. You're 21 and old enough to make your own decisions, just try to be smart about how much you drink (or, more importantly, how often). Going wild one night a week isn't going to be nearly as bad for you as drinking a dozen or so beers every night. Be sure to balance any extra calorie intake with exercise the following day (actually a good cure for a hangover sometimes, and if you feel like crap then that's just another lesson learned).

although there have been some proven pluses to a drink a day, let me say this from a fat burning stand point:
when you ingest alcohol, the body perceives it as a poison. The body will stop "burning" fat and carbohydrates for energy until the poison is out of the body.

So if you were to consume a larg amount of alcohol, you are not burning fat until the alcohol is out of your system.

Tonic is like drinking regular soda, a vodka tonic or gin and tonic have about 200 calories, where as rum and diet coke have about 66, light beer anywhere from 100 to 300.

Beer Belly

Well drinking two night a wekk in moderation is fair enough
Well dont try to overdo it , specially beer as then you have a huge chance of getting beer belly
I had it once and it was not a very good experience as everyone was making fun of my beer belly

Tonic is like drinking regular soda
Drink Diet Tonic instead... problem solved (at least one of the problems).
