Sport Got milk....?

How do you guys rate Milk as a source of calories/nutrition? I'm thinking of adding in a LOT more milk to my diet to really up my calorie intake.

If I was to switch to 0.5% - 1.0% fat milk (Skimmed milk) and drink at least a few pints a day, do you think it would be a good and healthy way to boost calories.

I can easily add 600 calories to my diet by making my Whey protein shakes with milk instead of water. I usually limit it to two shakes a day and get most of my protein from whole foods like Chicken and tuna, but by using around 1 pint of milk in my shake i'll get around 300 calories, so on a day that I take two that's 600 calories extra.

Hard to get that many from other sources so easily (Main one I can think of other than milk is nuts which I already eat a lot of)

I guess i'm worrying that all that milk will just make me fat, but then if it fits in with my daily calorie requirements I don't see how it would be much different than eating foods to get those extra calories (but will be a lot easier for me to consume them each day)

All that milk may get expensive though haha.

Btw I am 5'6 1/2" tall, 151.6 lbs and bulking to 160 - 165 before I cut, so I need a lot of calories for a short guy really. Of course I want most of the weight gain to be muscle ;)

I think milk is awesome. Nothing to indicate that it is unhealthy unless you have a sensitivity/allergic reaction to the proteins or the lactose in it. Personally I drink whole milk with about 4% fat :D it's yummy in my tummy.

I have no adverse reactions to milk at all, and to top it off the taste is great.

Nothing like a glass of fresh milk, tastes better on it's own than with Whey, but it's easy to just combine the two sometimes.

I just read about the squats and milk routine the other day lol, i'm not doing this but just reading about it made me think why don't I start having a lot of milk to get the extra calories I require.

Seems to have good macro nutrient ratios too. Obviously i'll get most of my calories from solid foods, but the milk will just make things easier (and tastier)

I thought whey protein came from milk? (correct me if I am wring) just make sure you get a variation in the protein you take on- if its all comming from one type your neglecting other types which will add to your health and are a huge benefit. Things like meat, nuts, fish for example all have different types of protein that whey and milk/dairy don't have. By all means drink more milk, mix it with the whey you have but don't forget to keep a variation going.

Drink whole, raw milk. Why? Because raw milk has the natural cultures and digestive enzymes in it necessary for your body to best utilize all of its nutrients, especially the protein in it. The fat in the raw milk is also incredibly beneficial, not only is it a naturally high source of CLA, but the fat in the milk helps to slow its digesting, which is important since the protein in milk is casein(a naturally slow digesting protein). The fat in milk also helps lower its glycemic index, meaning you will not get as much of an insulin response, and you are less prone to store fat. Pasteurized milk is just dead milk, it is really wortht he extra money to drink the raw stuff. I got through about two gallons of raw milk a week, and I am currently at 6% bodyfat. Raw, whole milk makes you strong, not fat

Milk is mostly casein, I think, and some whey.

I think you're right Karks!

Summer, I do get proteins from other sources too, lots of it from meats mainly. Skinless chicken breast, and from fish like Salmon. Good advice though not trying to get it all from one place.

Also I eat a lot of nuts, and in wholemeal bread there's the odd few grams of protein too, so it does all add up over the day. I can almost not need whey protein shakes, except for budget and convenience really.

The milk i've been adding to my diet is mainly to up my overall calorie intake, as I get in enough proteins from food and a shake a day (max of two shakes). Milk seems to have a good balance of carbs and protein though.

I can luckily stomache pints and pints of it if I ever wanted to, I know a lot of people have trouble with milk and dairy in general. I have noticed my macro ratios have been a little off since having more milk.

More fat in there, where as usually I get about a 40:40:20 it's gone to more like 35:35:30 ish

Milk has a high biological value rating and because it is slow absorbing protien, can help sustain muscle anabolism.
