Good strap heart rate monitor? Polar? Timex? 46" chest?

The most recent thread I found was over a year old - maybe the technology has improved. When I read the reviews at Amazon.com
  • there seems to be a lot of dissatisfaction with Polar about the quality having gone down and the strap batteries being fixed.
  • The reviews seemed to Timex units but several mentioned the straps were too short.
My chest is 46" (belly fat, not bulging muscles, alas).
Any recommendations?
