Good news from the doctor

I'm generally pretty healthy, but I was curious to see how I was doing after working out and adjusting my diet for the last 6 months. The doctor was very happy at my losing 20 lbs., and 6" off of my waist. Today I got the blood work back, and every single measure (2 pages worth) was within the recommended values. My total cholesterol was 172, down 30 points since my last check-up. Now I'm more motivated than ever to stick with my new lifestyle! I'm 55, and they're always shocked when I go in for a test or procedure, and I tell them I don't take ANY meds. I'm probably in better shape now than I've been for the last 30 years.

Congratulations!

Welldone :) You should be very proud. I had to go to the hospital yesterday for a diabeties check up. Im type 1 so its not weight related.

Excellent!

They are probably shocked because most doctors and patients want to reach for the drugs as a first resort, rather than a last resort (only if cleaning up one's diet, exercising, etc. does not solve the problem).

According to this CNN transcript:

CNN.com - Transcripts

81% of American adults take regular medication. 25% take five medications per week, and 5% take ten medications per week.

Perhaps it is not surprising that American medical care costs 16% of GDP (versus 8-10% of GDP in other rich countries).

Cool. Yeah it's nice to hear since most people your age are doing pretty terrible.
